    Never do drugs ever ever

Oh nice! The city is great in the summer, if it's your first time the river architecture tours are tourist-y but also a good time. Yeah, maybe avoid downtown during a teen takeover though... That might be a time to wander a bit farther north, maybe catch some Irish music.

    Never do drugs ever ever

Not sure how much I want to touch this thread, but just to share an experience: I live in Chicago not NYC, and in 6 years of public transit commuting I've only encountered 2 situations involving a mentally unwell person that I would consider to be actually dangerous. In both cases the rest of...

DIY EDC AA: The Franken Light (build log)

Okay, it's been a good long time since I posted here, a bit over a year by the look of it, but that doesn't mean the project is dead! Here's a picture of the newly finished "component wrench" I plan to use for installing the pill. This was also my chance to test out some things on the local...

Have you chosen one brand's power-tools platform?

I've been using Dewalt. Nothing special about that choice, it's just what I started with and I haven't had any issues. I'll stay with Dewalt unless I run across a company doing real built-in-the-usa tools in which case I'd be tempted to switch.

    Liberty wind turbine collapse

I think this is a really interesting topic! There has been a bunch of really great work done looking at the total life-cycle CO2 emissions (and costs) of different power sources and the results can definitely be surprising. I'd always assumed most of the emissions came from manufacturing, but...

DIY EDC AA: The Franken Light (build log)

Continuing with the build log, I've now got all the parts in got the chance to mock things up in plastic (see below). The tolerances were not close enough to fit-check everything, but I did get to verify the o-ring seals were sized correctly, and that the light feels nice in the hand. Next up...

DIY EDC AA: The Franken Light (build log)

@desert.snake: I've been away from my computer over the holidays and coming back to that design (which my fiance has dubbed the "beast variant") is a real treat. I really like your point about the slip and the direct thermal path definitely warrants A/B testing. Adding a protective lens to the...

DIY EDC AA: The Franken Light (build log)

Hi All, I'm starting my first flashlight build and I thought it might be fun to document the process here for the entertainment value and (if any kind soles wander by) the feedback. To kick things off I'm using store bought internals from mntelectronics (selected mostly at random) and sticking...

What do you use a flashlight for the most?

Looking for parts I've dropped, or occasionally for reading part part markings if I'm not at the workbench. Looking for stuff under the couch would definitely be a top 5 though...
