    Poor man's Gatorade.

The sugar is important. It’s not for flavor, and it cannot be replaced by an artificial sweetener. The sugar plays a role in getting the electrolytes through the intestinal wall and into your bloodstream. Without the sugar, you can put the electrolytes in at the top and lose them out the bottom...

Follow-up on cells for the Logan 17500. I bought a set of 4x16500s from the river. They seem good so far. Rated at 1200mah. The fit is excellent -- they are flat-tops, and close to regulation size, so the head seats deeply even when off. I was worried with some other cells -- longish 17500s...

Which discontinued flashlights do you wish were still made?

I had a Fenix like that — I’m not sure what the number was (TKXX) but it was an 8xAA driving a single MCE quad-die in a big shallow reflector. A terrific light for its time (2008?), but the 8xAA format is not as good as a single hi-capacity Li-ion.

R.I.P. - Singer Bonnie Tyler passes away at 75.

To judge from the thumbnail, she died of acute ‘80s hair. Man, those were my young adult years, and I know we found all that attractive back then. But when you look back on the styles of earlier decades, you just have to shake your head and wonder what people were thinking. Anyhow, RIP to a...

    Bushcrafty Pencil Sharpener !

Thanks for trying this out. So, it sounds like the shavings from the sharpener are not fine enough to catch a spark on their own, but would be a good kindling for the next phase of fire-building. The sharpener is neither large nor heavy, so I think it could earn its keep in a medium sized or...

For Sale - Flashlight Back for more…Olight, Wuben, Wuurkos, oh my!

What people don't understand about that photo is that the basketball is a regulation-sized NBA ball. That's how big the dogs are.

Happy Independence Day United States of America!

A celebration of America's greatness: "A man wrote me and said: ``You can go to live in France, but you cannot become a Frenchman. You can go to live in Germany or Turkey or Japan, but you cannot become a German, a Turk, or a Japanese. But anyone, from any corner of the Earth, can come to live...

Video won’t play for me, but I will join you in wishing Happy Birthday to the USA, the best country that has ever been. May we all live to see it become even better.

    List your McGizmo flashlights

All I can say is, "sorry for your loss." It sucks to lose a valued light. And sucks even worse if it was stolen.

C'mon, Monocrom. This is just Flashlight 101: Always trim cells at the negative end. If you trim at the positive end, then the electrons fall out. Haven't you learned anything?

Circular saw it is, then. Of course, I could just get out the old acetylene cutting torch....

    Peak aficionados, show and tell!

Up above in this thread I expressed some doubts about whether 17xxx cells will fit into the Logan 17500. I don't have any 17500's yet, but I do have a 17670 from a different venture, so I tried that. The 17670 slid right into the tube of the Logan 1750 without a hitch. So the 17500 should...

I don't know whether finer threads would be less durable than coarser threads, but it would mean that you would need to twist the head more turns to go from off to full. Right now, there's about 1/4 - 1/3 turn from off to full, so it's no problem doing that with just your thumb and index, after...

Dogs vs people? Which do you prefer?

True that. I don't even think I am among the candidates for your FAKE mom!

Dogs vs people? Which do you prefer?

Oh, I admit it's a bit off-kilter (as well as off-color). But humor often comes from incongruity -- if you want to get a laugh, it helps to look at things a bit differently.

It's finicky on the lowest, firefly levels. On intermediate and high levels, I have not seen it acting unstably, and it has not been a practical problem for use. This may just be a feature of how percentages work -- if the QTC is fluctuating in its resistance, then the small fluctuations may be...

    Peak aficionados, show and tell!

I've been using both AA cells and a CR123 in my new Logan 17500 light. The CR123 required the Delrin spacer that Peak sells. Come to think of it, I also ran a AAA in their, using a different Delrin spacer. The kit includes three spacers, for CR123, for AAA, and for AA, but that last is just a...
