Hello all,
I just purchased a new Surefire light. Model in the thread title. I find that the light has a greenish tint to it, especially around the hotspot, then gets cooler/more white towards the center. Ive watched a few reviews of it on YouTube, and read a few others that have all...
I would say I am a bit wary of li-ion and primaries, but Im not really concerned about them or anything. Call it having a respect for them, if you will, just like you have respect for a drill, saw or any other tool you use. That is enough to keep bad things from happening because of neglect or...
2.75A seems a bit low for discharge capacity on a RCR123/16340, though I guess it would depend on the chemistry. Im no expert on Li-ion batteries, but on Nitecore's website they claim that their NL166 RCR123 is capable of 4A discharge current. May want to look into one of those. I have two...
Nitecore SRT3 as a reading light with a white cone diffuser on the head. Actually works very, very well for that, especially with 16340s so you dont needlessly burn up CR123s.
Its pretty rare here that power goes out. We had a bit of a scare a while ago with an imminent ice storm, but nothing ever came of it. Still, we have plenty of winter to go so I invested in some Surefire CR123s for my lights. Got about 17 of them ready to use, plus two RCR123s ready to go for...
Panasonic protected cells would also be a good way to go. As for leaving them on a charger overnight, Ive read multiple times that it isnt a good idea. I would think with protected cells and a good smart charger (Nitecore D2/D4 or SC4) it shouldnt be an issue but I am not an authority on this...
As long as the light is designed to use 18650s, the brand of the cell will not matter. Just as long as its a quality cell which Streamlights (from what I have heard anyway) usually are there shouldnt be any problems. Honestly I would do it without thinking twice about it. I personally would...
I use clear plastic tackle style storage boxes. They are fairly cheap and work well for storing larger numbers of batteries. I use smaller, 4 ct containers actually made for batteries to carry a few spares with me in my EDC bag.
EDIT:
The thing that would worry me about using ammo boxes is...
Reading light. My seat in the living room doesnt get much light from the lamps. I had my light next to me with a white cone diffuser on it and was using it as a reading light. Worked rather well.
I avoid using alkaline anything if at all possible. Any battery I can replace with a lithium or NiMH rechargeable, I do. There is a reason alkalines are known as alkaleaks in some circles. Not about to have a leaky alkaline destroy an expensive light or gadget. I have a few sitting around...
Used my new SRT3 to inspect a shed we have in back when I noticed that the door was open. Dont know how it got opened, but nothing seemed a miss in the shed so, -shrug-

I would look into the Nitecore SRT3. May not be as throwy as you would like on Primary CR123s, but I find that it has a nice hotspot with a decent amount of spill. Very nice size and is really easy to use.
Very nice review. I received my SRT3 tonight and have been playing around with it a bit. I already fell in love with it and the smart ring. Without the extender, I find that it is the perfect size for my pocket and my larger-than-average hands. I cant see myself using the extender right now...
