Use voltage to determine remaining charge in a used AA alkaline?

I would be interested to read that discussion. Do you have a link?

Use voltage to determine remaining charge in a used AA alkaline?

I just noticed Amazon is now selling their own brand multimeters. Do you have any thoughts about them? I've generally been happy with their own products. However, there's no mention I could find about "CAT". See https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B083V7BMZR/ Fluke meters are out of my league...

Use voltage to determine remaining charge in a used AA alkaline?

I've been looking recently for a basic multimeter but got ovewhelmed by the torrent of Chinese models all claiming improbable "mega" specifications but probably built out of the cheapest components imaginable. I'll take look at the Extech range you mention. Whilst they're also probably made in...

Use voltage to determine remaining charge in a used AA alkaline?

When I remove some old alkaline cells (AA or AAA) from a device, I sometimes check their voltage. Although a cell measured in that way has no load, is it very roughly possible to use voltage to know how depleted it is? Some of my devices need fresher cells than others and I was thinking if...

How quickly does light output fall as battery loses charge in a LED torch?

How quickly does the light output fall as a battery loses charge in a LED flashlight? Does light output fall quickly with a small discharge? Or does it stay reasonably good and then suddenly start to get a lot worse? Has anyone produced a chart of light output against remaining...

Why are industrial AA and AAA cells different dimensions from retail cells?

My Duracell Industrial cells (AA and AAA) have different dimension to the retail equivalent. The button is not so prominent and the base connector sticks out a bit more. Some devices won't work on these industrail cells because they don't quite touch the connectors. Why this difference?

Problem with LaCross BC-700 in TEST mode

My LaCrosse BC-700 doesn't properly run the TEST mode on cells that start off fully charged. The user guide says: "In the Test mode the rechargeable batteries will first be fully charged and then discharged to determine the capacities. Finally, the rechargeable batteries are charged up again"...

How long leave freshly charged NiMH cell for it to show delta-V if put in a charger?

I was referring the the La Crosse bc-700. It's in my first post.

How long leave freshly charged NiMH cell for it to show delta-V if put in a charger?

Doesn't a charger use a cell's voltage to determine if it needs charging? (Rather than delta-V.)

How long leave freshly charged NiMH cell for it to show delta-V if put in a charger?

How long does an AA NimH cell have to rest before it self-discharges enough to allow a charger to detect delta-V drop? I ask this because I have a LaCrosse BC-700 charger which, as we know, tests capacity by first charging a cell and subsequently measuring the amount of discharge the cell can...

    Eneloop XX not holding charge

I find that technology creeps along and it's not long before I want a newer type of cell long before my old cells have stopped working. Now I just buy for a few years ahead. That means I actually prefer to go for higher capacity even if it comes at the cost of shorter life.

    Fancy flashlight casings

None of that would be bad id they were just plastic that been molded into a different shape. However the torches I mean are made of over-elaborate materials and finished using over-elaborate machining techniques. I wonder how much illumination performance is lost to provide for this sort of thing.

    Fancy flashlight casings

The problem of over-elaborate casings seems widespread. For example, my most recent torch was an Ultrafire (Cree XM-L T6 led) which looked like it belonged in a science fiction movie. As another example, a modest 1mW green laser pointer looked like a parody of some space weapon. These are...

    Fancy flashlight casings

Despite their modest power ratings, the last few flashlights and laser pointers I have bought look like they came straight from some military SWAT team arms store! The casings are beautifully made in aluminum with lathe-turned knobs and machined knurls and must have cost something to provide...

Is this Laser site for real?

Today I saw LaserPointerPro advertise a 200 mW laser for about $20 which I was attracted by. Then I figured it was too cheap and wasn't worth the risk of giving my credit card details, let alone the $20. Maybe I'm too cautious and someone will tell me this is a reliable vendor.
