    My New Lathe

Try warming up the spindle bearings, then remeasure. Should get better. Start at 250 RPM for 20min, then go up to 500 RPM for 20min, and them 1000 RPM for another 20min. Check for overheating before increasing speed. Oh, and make sure the bearings have the proper oil if they arn't sealed...

NiCd still used in cordless drills Batterys

I have had two 12v DeWalt re-celled at primecell.com with good results. I also use a 14v pack with my 12v drill. I had to modify the drill to take the slightly diferent shape of the 14v pack.

    Machining plastics

Chips not breaking is a big problem with plastics. If you can interupt the cut to make smaller strings that can help. Also clean away the chips often to prevent build up. If you have the room, you can also try a shop vac to pull away the string as it forms.

If you can get some rubber washers between the bolt heads and the metal straps that hold the motor unit to the ceiliing. Also you will need to add rubber washers between the metal strap and the ceilinig. That should hepl a lot. Oh, and do the same with the bolts that hold the end of the track...

Build your own CD battery tab welder for $100

Also look for low inductance caps. Those are mostly used for photoflash apps. If you can't get low inductance, you can use a bunch of smaller caps. and wire them up in paralell. But you need to have all of the wires from each side of the caps. go to one common point. (one for pos. and one for...

you need to learn how to weld plastic. Get a container of simmilar plastic to practice on. You will need a sliver or rod of filler plastic. Use a big soldering gun as your heat source. You will need to heat the area you want to build up, as well as the filler rod. You will need to push the...

I just bought a battery pack welder

You would need to use low inductance caps. for that use. Normal caps. won't be able to dump all their power quickly enough for welding. Search the surplus market for "photo flash" caps.

    Digital Calipers & Pitch Guages

No, not more accurate, but more usefull. You can set the origin (0.000) at any point, and then measure diferances. Like if you wanted to make several parts all the same size. You would make one part to the required length, and set the calipers to zero on that part, then measure other...
