    FF4 VS FF3

In this vein, someone should mention, that when you get close enough to char the wall, the hallowed lux numbers will change even more, lol... :sssh: Quick, somebody try this test with The Torch! :shakehead This seems like great performance for the $$ and a nice functional improvement over the...

Flashlights are getting too bright, Lumens race getting out of hand...

That WickedLasers "Torch" drives me nuts; almost any device can be modified to catch nearby flammables on fire. Such devices are usually referred to as "hazards" :shakehead Over 50,000 lumens, people and animals nearby (and not-so-nearby) start to risk eye damage from wayward reflections. It's...

Feit Electric, Intematix Introduces Low Cost 100W LED Light Bulb

Thanks for the heads-up, I have been wanting to try some chromalit :o but the Philips equivalents are still >$50 on "sale" at Amazon / my local Home Improvement Price War Outpost. :broke: Surprised to NOT see CRI hyped in this material. I wonder what LEDs Feit is using to pump the chromalit...

    discussion of less-discussed hid hosts

The host that jayrob uses in this thread is available at the brick & mortar Tractor Supply near my house for $18 (black bezel tho). :)

    Fire Foxes IV FF4

In practice, what I gained was interchangeability of the batteries with other lights that need protected cells. Cutting the batt carrier springs had no apparent effect on performance and allowed me to NOT buy 4 new unprotected cells to run the light, saving about $45. :o

Advice on how to rebuild broken DIY HID torch, i.e. go LED or stay HID?

Lots of more expert folks here, but IMO if you are set on keeping your battery and head, the HID replacement (+upgrade) will be easier / more modular. :) An LED would be a more efficient setup with longer runtimes, and could potentially supply as much light output as the 21W HID you are...

    opinions on 65, 75, & 85w ebay lights?

I bought my 4300K eBay HID from the linked seller jessie_lighting and the battery pack exhibits less self-discharge than my Olight packs! :duh2: I may have (probably) just gotten lucky, but had a positive experience with that shop.

Nothing too confusing or exciting, just kind of surprised to find my FF3 is my most powerful UV thrower. :)

    Woods Glass

Below are quick and dirty pics of a chunk of calcite and some rutile crystals. (As always, apologies for the cameraphone skillz.....) :o From L to R: in indoor light, illuminated by an FF3 behind Hoya 340 Wood's glass, and illuminated by a Nichia 365nm NCSU033A chip drop-in from CPF B/S/T here.

    Sr95 vs nitecore tm26

My sr95 is informative out to about 550 yards. Going by the ANSI specs, I'd not take a TM26 to inform me about what's going on further than 300 yards away.
