This is the BEST post I've read for ages! But Troutie, remember too much light is never enough! So gotta keep going man.:D

Reflective surface behind Lens optics on 3/4up

Here's 2 ideas, for DIY reflector materials: Cannibalized Hard-disk platter (ie aluminium with a polished mirror finish) Recycled CD-ROM disc BTW, I'm currently dabbling with the HDD platter, to boost tallight output.

    Well done George!

    Covering Maxflex in sealant??

Well I'm no expert, but as I understand it, George doesn't particularly recommend potting the maxFlex drivers. From memory, he says the switcher IC runs at a high enough frequency that you'd need to be aware of capacitance issues, with whatever medium you're potting it in. Out of curiousity...

    Cutters

For what it's worth I can't figure out "parametric search" either. But it looks very much like those Crees are bare emitters only (ie. no MCPCB).

    Best adhesive for gluing perspex?

Just an update... Still haven't tried PVC adhesive, because while browsing my local hardware shop, I decided to try Selley's Plastic Glue instead. It's not all that cheap, but it seems to meet the requirements OK. As a test I laminated 2 perspex cubes together. The glued joint is...

    Best adhesive for gluing perspex?

Good thinking; in my shed there should be some PVC solvent-adhesive. The PVC adhesive we get here is usually a bright blue colour, but it's still promising, and worth a try to see how well it bonds perspex. Assuming that works then I'd try plumbing-supply shops for a clear version. Edit --...

George, that's awesome. I'm sure there's lots of crazy DIYers just drooling at the possibilities of something like this. :twothumbs

    Best adhesive for gluing perspex?

Ah, thanks Znomit. After inspecting some some perspex aquariums (I mean aquaria), I sort of guessed that some sort of solvent-based adhesive like that would give the best results. Not sure I can justify chasing those ingredients, however I'll probably try experimenting with a few...

worlds first triple MCE MR16 Maglite bike light

Yep, I completely agree! I'd argue that lights like your triple MC-E have raised the bar to the point where 'standard' camera setting are no longer appropriate. So maybe it's time for beamshot-setting MkII (say with a 1 f-stop aperture reduction)? But of course we know it won't stop there...

    Best adhesive for gluing perspex?

Thanks folks, you've given me plenty of info to give this idea a shot. Regarding the taillight diffuser, my description wasn't all that clear (sorry). What I'm planning is just a 'Dinotte-style' helmet-light, that could accept a cylindrical perspex 'diffuser' optic, forming an end-plug at the...

    Best adhesive for gluing perspex?

Sorry if this has been answered previously, but can anyone recommend a good adhesive for gluing perspex? Basically I've found some offcuts of perspex-sheet (say 5mm-10mm thick). I'm toying with the idea of laminating 2-3 sheets together, in order to make a taillight diffuser, or possibly some...

Well done! That's dazzlingly bright. It was nice to see that a single MaxFlex is coping with 3 MC-Es without drama.

    Maxflex3

Since my previous post, I've started reading-up on thermal-potting resin, and the more I read the less I liked the sound of it. Then I re-read George's post #13, and now I grok what he's saying about Arctic Alumina being sufficient if you provide an adequate heatsink. Consequently, I've gone...
