Folks, I'm a bit out of my element here, I may be way off base. But here's a thought:

Does this mean there's a diode external to the chip, that is costing that .6V discrepancy...
Just had a closer look at #18, and it doesn't look like what I thought it was. (That would have been a milkmite.) This head looks different, more like an E1e. Where's your milkmite?
#18 is an L1 head on a VG body. The guts are probably a modified and "exploded" Dorcy 1.5v boost circuit. Milky's original of this model used an R2H and is now in *my* (much, much smaller) collection.
I've been away from CPF for some time, happened to peek in and saw this thread. This very topic had been on my mind for some time as it turns out.
To me, the Mag 2C is beyond just a nice form factor. It is a work of art. Perfectly proportioned. Beautiful curves. No excess lines or anything...
