Nitecore EA81 discontinued? Anyone know why?

What a shame. I have both the EA81 and a EA42. Recently looked into getting another ea81 but found that they quit making it. There are still several out there on amazon and what not but now I have to go ahead and get one while supplies last. I was pretty much a staunch Fenix fan till I tried...

Any meaningful changes in flashlights in the last 5 years?

Aside from the absurd, ridicules and useless amount of lumens to test any battery, the next quantum leap will be when you have a GUI to setup the light the way you want it to act. Changes have been subtle and gradual but todays lights are a lot better than 5 years ago.

Recommend some good Throwy 2xAA & 1xAA lights plz.

There are so many choices out there. I always keep 2 lights in the truck in case one dies. I used to just keep spare batteries but that did not work so well. A backup light will finish the shift to change cells in the primary at leisure. I love my LD41 and also have a TK41 and did not mention...

Recommend some good Throwy 2xAA & 1xAA lights plz.

I have been pretty impressed with the Nitecore MT2A . For a pocket sized 2AA small reflector, it has a pretty good hot spot plus 4 levels up to 280 or so lumens. The reflector is about 12mm but the spot compares well with the 25 and 30mm reflectors. Actually, you did not specify how many AAs so...

Recommendations for a single 18650 EDC light?

Sounds like Jetbeam BC-25 would fit the bill perfectly. Tailcap button and 2 speeds by twisting the head. About as small as you get in the 700 lumen range with heat sinking ability. I know there are smaller lights but they will get hot quickly on high power.

    New 4 D Cell Maglite ML 300

You Sir, are living on borrowed luck. I have put new batteries in a headlight and within 5 minutes seen the blue-grey acrid smoke coming out. Even that few seconds of exposure started corrosion on the contacts.

    Replacement for Terralux Lightstar 80

I very much suggest getting the 3AA to D adapters. I bought an 8pk on Amazon for $7.95+ some shipping. The D cells have about 11,000mah compared to 1AA having only 2,000 so the 3AA adapter will give you 6,000mah and a lot more current than any alkaleak D cell. As for replacing the LS80, I have...

Fenix TKUE18 post mortem/autopsyl, fatal design flaw?

Re: Fenix TKUE18 dissapointment then joy then buring smell, third time lucky? TK75 is a bit bulky but I'm 6'2" and have big hands so it is not cumbersome at all. If you are 5' with stubby fingers it may not be too comfortable.

    New 4 D Cell Maglite ML 300

I wonder if the maglites will perform on rechargeable batteries or if something will be lost from lower voltage. In the old days we put 3 cell bulbs in the 4D with nicads. I'm still a little put off at Mag for taking years yo decide to get on the wagon with the rest of the world. I still have...

Fenix TKUE18 post mortem/autopsyl, fatal design flaw?

Re: Fenix TKUE18 dissapointment then joy then buring smell, third time lucky? I used to be Fenix all the way but now I have decided that I like Nitecore much better. It seems that everything Fenix has, Nitecore has a slightly better version. Other brands are their own thing and I have a lot of...

Powerbank charging phone catches fire on plane

Reminds me of an old TV commercial. Little kid: Mommy, an uggy buggy! Mommy: Don't worry Dear, I'll get the Raid. At my house Me: Mommy an uggy buggy. Mommy: Stomp on it stupid!

    Best AA light for me?

I might suggest, based on: My first favorite AA flashlight was the Fenix TK41 with 8AAa. The size and shape is very close to the old 2D Incans that we could buy for $0.99 with 2 Carbon D cells included. You got a whopping 30-40 lumens LOL! So the TK41 was a bit bulky and I discovered the Fenix...

    D-Cell storage?

I'm not any kind of expert but I can tell you my experience. When they decide to spew , they just do it whether in a light or not. Some leak and some short out and spew corrosives. I have learned to just leave the alkies out of anything that I care about. I turned on my head lamp one day and...

Did I Kill These Brand New Cells?

What usually damages cells are impacts like being dropped onto a hard surface. Pressure dents in the casing ( deep dents not withstanding) should not have any real effect internally if they are constructed like most. Just test the voltage and put them through the normal steps of usage...

Do LED bulbs really draw less bugs?

WHAT? Strobe lights make flies land! Buahahaha!! I'm going to give that a test for sure this spring.
