    New LED "bulb"

Somebody get the sun some air; it's turning blue! Nothing really earth-shattering here. Not that there's that much you can do with the heat-sinking limitations of the PR package.

    1 lumen flashlight?

Perhaps a film canister? A trip to the local Chinese outlet store (Wal-Mart) would probably turn out many other suitable containers as well.

    LRI Proton Pro led?

I doubt it's anything over a Q4. It has to be a bin that has been available in production quantities for a little while. As mentioned, it doesn't really matter anyway, with Cree's bins being so narrow.

    hds runtimes. It's all over

Re: hds runtimes. And then rounded it down. Henry is a true pessimist.

Cree white R2 bin forward voltage

Double ouch. Can you even push that kind of voltage through an LED without letting the magic smoke out? I'd be surprised to see these survive at 1A.

Inova X1 (3rd Gen) First Impressions

True, but it shortens the overall life of the light. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that junction temperature was more important than drive current where lumen maintenance is concerned. The PWT, being so small, has very little area over which to dissipate heat; I imagine that this is...

    Nichia reaches 169 lm/W!

Wow. A CRI of 97 is a major improvement. The incan guys might even like those.

Inova X1 (3rd Gen) First Impressions

That emitter was designed for cell phones, if you ask me. They're basically disposable since people get suckered into always buying the latest and greatest and trashing the old one. I'm still holding my breath for a Rebel version of the X1. +1 on the River Rock 1AA. That was one of my better...

    Nichia reaches 169 lm/W!

Maybe I've been spoiled by Cree, but I just don't get excited by paper launches anymore. It will be encouraging to see Nichia enter the power LED arena, though. The more competition the better!

Inova X1 (3rd Gen) First Impressions

Actually, the PWT in the X1 is currently more expensive than the lower bin Rebels. I don't think the Rebel was available in commercial quantities when the new X1 went into production. To switch LEDs, they'd also have to redesign the reflector; the dice are different sizes and have different...

    Sold/Expired FS: Microprocessor controlled drivers

It has to be more than coincidence that the DX board is exactly the same (except for the UI). I hope nobody stole your design. :thumbsdow Three-mode simplicity is certainly worth the difference in price to me, not to mention supporting a fellow CPFer. And I'll bet the DX board doesn't have...

Why Cree advances, but not SSC?

Luxeon-scale binning only makes sense with older, less reliable manufacturing technology, or spotty QC, IMHO. I'm not sure why SSC opted for this when Cree, who sources them the dice, adopted a much narrower and more sensible approach. Still anxiously awaiting R bins!

    Sold/Expired FS: Microprocessor controlled drivers

Re: FS: Microprocessor controlled drivers **1AA boards available now** This brings up another question: what is its actual efficiency at each level? I'm just curious. Also, could you explain the problems with the Li-ion boards? Again, just curiosity - although there are plenty of people here...

    Sold/Expired FS: Microprocessor controlled drivers

Re: FS: Microprocessor controlled drivers **1AA boards available now** I know how you feel; have you seen USD vs GBP lately? :sick2: Anyway, if you need to adjust prices, let us know. I don't mind paying retroactively.

    Regulation not as important?

Exactly the point I wanted to make. The propriety of regulation depends largely on the size and chemistry of the battery. The high internal resistance of alkalines makes them totally unsuitable for regulated lights, IMO. You push them harder and they just get hotter, wasting energy while the...
