What creates the cut-off in a an automotive reflector headlight

With the older glass style lenses, which often included fresnel lenses, it was obvious that the headlight "lens" was part of the optics that created the beam. With modern clear, usually made from untextured lexan "lenses" I guess it's just the reflector that creates the beam and cut-off pattern...

What creates the cut-off in a an automotive reflector headlight

Are the beam cut-off and cut-off shape (ramps, steps, or straight) created by the reflector itself or by the bulb shield? Or is it done differently altogether?

Bulb with about 25% less light output than P21W?

Should have the filament in the same place and the same bayonet mount. Is there such a bulb?

VW indigo gauge cluster LED swap to red?

This is the horror I am looking at every evening: This is what I am trying to achieve for the analog instrument numerals (Audi cluster shown):

VW indigo gauge cluster LED swap to red?

Got a MY 2000 MK4 with the horrible indigo LED cluster background illumination. Would love to replace the 18 indigo LEDs (ca 440 nanometers) that illuminate the four gauges with red ones. Obviously, voltage requirements differ between LEDs of different color. I have not yet had the cluster out...

OE Vehicle Lighting That Makes You Go "Ugh"

My brother's 1995 Audi A4 came with horrible Bosch DOT code lights. Triple reflector lights with the least efficient, most uneven and least defined beam pattern ("crooked root shape") I have ever seen. Outright dangerous. He ended up installing Bosch e-codes, which by th way had still glass...

Driving lights, fog lights? Any experience/opinions?

Just a few comments on fog lights: Fog lights are ideally located as low as possible to the ground. That way the beam of light passes under the layer of fog which usually hovers bit above ground. Many cars, including VW and Audi models, contain fog lights that are integrated into the headlamp...
