Wanted- PT Apex or other 4AA waterproof battery holder

Anyone got a dead or old-generation Apex with a working battery case? I'm looking to replace a broken one, and would be glad to buy yours. Thanks!

Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries for Apex at 7.4v??

Re: Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries for Apex at 7.2v? Anybody try LiFePO4 battery packs? They would be closer to 6.4v, and perhaps the warning flashes etc. would work.

Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries for Apex at 7.4v??

Re: Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries for Apex at 7.2v? I have a nice little LiPo pack that fits perfectly on the headband. Smaller and lighter than the 4AAs. I also have a 2S2P on a long cable, and several 2S1Ps that could work on the band. Too bad about the lack of warning. I'd love to...

Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries for Apex at 7.4v??

Re: Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries for Apex at 7.2v? Thanks, my 7.4v 2S1P packs seem to work. They fit OK on the back of the headband. What happens when the light goes out of regulation- I assume it will just shut down without warning rather than run on at low voltage, no?

Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries for Apex at 7.4v??

Does anyone know if you can run an Apex at 7.2v? My pimped 200 lumen apex got returned to me with a broken AA case. I'm thinking I'd rather have a rechargeable battery pack, and I have some 7.2v Li-ion packs for my bike lights. Thanks

Designing good daytime rear commuter lights

Anybody know if the Magicshine tail light will run off 1x 3.7v battery? I know it's meant for 7.2v, but not sure how it's regulated. It might be a decent daylight-visible helmet rear light.

    Magic Shine versus DIY

You could do a custom single XM-L build for around $100 including batteries that would be brighter with a better beam, and custom programmable brightness levels. It takes a lot more time though.

    Need recommendation for surgical headlamp

I've used the HP10 as a backup for dentistry and it was plenty bright. Also disinfected it with no problems.

    Best bike light?

Greg, you really should add the Amoeba to your list. They look really good. Ultralightweight, lots brighter than an AyUp, pretty waterproof, $220 or so. http://amoebalight.blogspot.com/ 2x Cree XP-G R5 LED's (spot beam pattern) - ~600 lumens total output regulated at 800ma. Single mode –...

Pimp your Apex (Cree XP-G mod)

I got one of each. This one's a cool white R5, which looks fine, but the next one will be a neutral R4.

Pimp your Apex (Cree XP-G mod)

I took a better look at the beam against a white wall. There is a central hotspot, a halo around it that's somewhat bright and useful for looking at trails, etc. There's also a small dark ring around the halo and a white band around that. This may be what you call "Ringy" but I hadn't really...

Pimp your Apex (Cree XP-G mod)

My beam seems fine. The hotspot's tighter than it was with the P4, but there's still some spill. Not very ringy- I think my emitter might fit better than yours after I rounded it off to 8mm. I only filed the outer edges of my optic- the holes still fit the pins on the holder, so it's in the...

Pimp your Apex (Cree XP-G mod)

OK, got the parts yesterday and did the mod. It was harder than the first one, as trimming down the 10mm aluminum board to 8mm diameter without damaging the emitter was a bit tricky, and the solder pads are smaller on the xp-g. I also had to file down the base of the stock optic a little to...
