    Bike Light mounts

I am using a bracket and spacer that Cateye HL-1500 is using. H-24 and H-34 types. http://www.cateye.com/store/parts.php?cid=2_20 You can order these spare parts at your local bike store. Only a few lights have distinct spacer (the part that is attached to the light itself). Most new lights...

Thank you, now it is clear for me.

    UIB2 and maxFlex

I agree, the menu entry window is inconvenient when someone powers on with an external switch... Same feelings for the slow power-off sequence when not in UIB2 mode. (Maybe you could eliminate the menu entry window and integrate a small webserver and an USB port in maxflex so users can...

    Polymer Optics?

My picture shows the 6 degree XR-E specific hex-optics on an XR-E (170 lens/147 holder) Now I recognized that the first post links to Cutter and shows part no 124/147. 147 is the holder for Cree. That is ok. But part no. 124 is a 25 degrees optics for a Luxeon style lambertian led. (Lux I, Lux...

    Polymer Optics?

The beam is not so nice. In other words: ugly. Although the beam is relatively tight (10-12 degrees FWHM), the hotspot brightness is about one-third of the "official" Cree 8 degree optics.

    White LED lumen testing

Dolphin? Not really. :-) Sorry for not explaining it. This is a "beamshot" of a bare XR-E emitter on the wall that was taken with a Pana FZ50 digital camera in RAW format. Horizontal field of view is about 53 degrees so it shows the central 25-40 degrees of the beam. Raw data from CCD (linear...

    White LED lumen testing

jtr1962, great work as always. Regarding the beam angles and profiles. Finding out the center of a bare XR-E (or other) emitter is not an easy job as the beam center is not always in the real center. The beam profile gets somewhat inconsistent in the central regions, you can get different...

Worlds brightest Bicycle light - 1400 lumens

I also have a homemade 6xSSC bikelight. For 1A each there is approx 21 Watts on leds. A simple 50x50mm heatsink is enough when in use. Headwind makes a perfect active cooling. It is barely mild even after twenty minutes of 21 Watts use. But without forced air convection, on my desk, it becomes...

Re: minT Very impressive work, well done! Are the push buttons also waterproof?

Max Lux at centre of hotspot for bare emitters - SSC P4 and XR-E

    XR-E P4 bin is approx. 38-40 cd at the centre @ 350mA (=38-40 lux @ 1m)

    Beam Reviews - Update 2/18/07 (added D-mini - also added/changed plots)

Re: Beam Reviews - Update 2/09/07 (add Milkyspit's HDS mod to XRE w/Q3 refl)) Exactly, thank you!

Re: Beam Reviews - Update 2/09/07 (add Milkyspit's HDS mod to XRE w/Q3 refl)) Lightrod, could you make plots on cumulative lumens vs angle?

    Reflector vs. Optics: Light Loss

Actually, those numbers are Carclo 10199 “tight” (for Cree XR-E), 8.4 FWHM angle with a peak of 30.9 Cd/lm. You quoted data for the old white Cree.

    Reflector vs. Optics: Light Loss

This is a very nicely documented datasheet collection. http://www.carclo-optics.co.uk/V2/pds/Datasheet105.pdf Here you can find the efficiencies for all their products, for XR-E, K2, Luxeon III or even Luxeon V targets. For XR-E optics efficiency is between 89 and 91%.
