    If you already open the head, the rest is easy. Pull the circuit board with twisting and straighen the 2 leads. You can access to 2 screws with slim screwdriver between circuit board and heatsink. Do not cut the wires. It is not easy to replace them due to the protective adhesive.

    I have modded KL5 with 2S2P MC-E for my friend. Beam is good without typical x shape. You have to remove the pedestal of LED pocket as following pic.

    I built this for my friend and used Lux Tower Module, SOB1000 and Cutter's 10mm MCPCB (2mm thickness). It looks XP-G die is same level as the top of the ceramic base.     Good soldering iron is helpful but not requisite. I have used cheap HAKKO 980 with fine tip. Most important factor is experience. Another mod with XP-G

    I have modded many Surefires. The parts layout of KL1 circuit is larger than KL4. So it is not fit to KL4 heatsink.

    YEAH! I love the beam quality and output. In my study, XPG is compatible with Lux & SSC P4 than XR-E. I think 2mm*20mm MCPCB with diagonal +/- pattern of pcb is the better for KL4 mod. I have searched buck/boost convert for 1 cell & 2 cell use but no luck. Anyone knows this kind of converter?

    HAHA I already did mine. I prefer keep original form factor. So I didn't touch the head and filed down a MCPCB. I'm satisfied with beam quality. I'll add some glowing epoxy or reflective sheet to cover the urgly face.

    Surefire L2 with Cree MC-E

    I have modded several KL4's, L2's & U2's with MC-E. Stock circuit of L2 is made for LuxV. So 2S2P of MC-E is adequate to it. Also you can use stock heatsink with copper shim, about 1.27mm thick.
