Thanks for pointing this out! You are absolutely right: remove the O-ring from the C01 and there is indeed almost no twisting resistance left.
I guess this also means that replacing the thick sturdy O-ring of the C01 with a thinner...

One important distinction not mentioned in the opening post is the much lower current draw of the Sofirn C01 versus the (newer) Fenix E01, at >0.9 Volt or so. I encourage everyone to measure the current...
Today I made a phone call to Fenix Netherlands. According to the nice lady I spoke to, the official status in the system is "DISCONTINUED", since autumn 2018. Fenix Netherlands could no longer order new supplies of the E01.
One of the big advantages of the E01 is the fact that its driver circuit is fully encapsulated. This is a really unique feature at this price point from a reputable manufacturer.
Is the E01 after modding with a Yuji led potted or epoxied again for improved reliability?
And if so, does anyone...
