    Take a look at the Armytek Predator (for more throw) or Viking (more flood). They are both tough and use 18650 rechargeables or the CR123 batteries

    Below 40$ I would probably go with a Fenix E21. With its XP-E LED you have a quite nice range which is useful while you're outside with the dog.

    Maybe the Fenix TK 35 could be the right light for you. For a light using 2x 18650s it is on the smaller side.

    When is it too much modes?

    I really like my HDS but I even like the Zebralight UI better. 3 modes are enough for me. Too bad my sc31 sometimes switches on in my pocket when I forget about the lock-out.

    If you could only have one flashlight...

    I guess it would be my HDS T1B-170 as it usually slides into my pocket every morning. Especially the moonlight mode is really useful around the house when it's dark.
