So much for my perfect keychain light!

Ah well, it takes me 10 minutes and about £2 to replace a G-Shock battery that will last around 7 years. A Rolex should be serviced about every 5 years, and that can cost a small fortune. Quartz Rolex will need batteries changing, and mechanical ones have much more to go wrong. I even avoid...

    Best host?

I can't quite recommend anything sub $12 US, but itc_shop on ebay has Solarforce L2 bodies on sale that'll take your dropin for $14.63 US (that includes shipping to NZ) These are good quality hosts and will take 18650 batteries.

So much for my perfect keychain light!

I'm not sure that's a good analogy. I'd rather rely on a cheap digital Casio G-Shock than a mechanical Rolex. (However, I'd rather recieve a Rolex as a gift :D).

semi-budget R4 light... any experience with this model?

Shiningbeam's R4 and Q5 versions are both significantly brighter than the stock version from DX. I've had both, I gave my girlfriend the Q5 and got myself an R4 version. I don't think you'll be dissapointed with the amount of light they put out (or the quality for the money).

Just recieved Surefire E1B backup, mixed thoughts on Quality Control

I've seen a Surefire presence here a number of times. IIRC his name's Stuart. I do agree when you buy anything, especially something expensive, it's reasonable to expect it to be in tip-top condition, but with certain things like flashlights and other tools I don't even bother inspecting them...

Help with picking new work light

Maybe a Zebralight would be a good idea, as they're small and the angled head might help shine it in awkward places. And of course, it can be worn as a headlamp which might also be handy in that kind of work, for hands-free stuff. They do floody versions too. They're well made and have some...

Just recieved Surefire E1B backup, mixed thoughts on Quality Control

I think at least some of the 'it will get beat up anyway' comments were meant to give you a different perspective and try to explain what Surefire lights are really about. For instance, I doubt people who get them issued in the military (which is where many of them go and are designed for)...

    Best Romisen for me?

I like the RC-N3. The new R4 version from shiningbeam.com is a bit more floody than the Q5 version, or the P4 version sold by DX.

    Will it blend? :naughty:

Fenix lights after 3.5 years of service...

My P2D Q5 (also has L2D body somewhere) was the first flashaholic type light I bought. It's had a fair bit of use and still looks almost new! Never had a problem with it.

Fenix or Olight worth the extra money over a Romisen on Ultrafire?

What Carrot said about the CR123's. ^ I didn't get your message I'm afraid. Give it another go.

    Jetbeam Jet 111-M switch trouble?

I'm surprised nobody's suggested trying that. It sounds like something that could happen due to a loose retaining ring. It's at least worth checking before taking further steps.

Fenix or Olight worth the extra money over a Romisen on Ultrafire?

I think for a decent amount of throw, decent quality and in that price range, a Solarforce L2 with an R2 would be a decent choice. There are throwers on DX that will throw further for the same money, but not the same quality. There's a 2 x AA version of the L2 if you prefer AA batteries, or a...

Fenix or Olight worth the extra money over a Romisen on Ultrafire?

 to Solarforce. Sadly I think the Skyline sale is over, but the L2 is still a top budget option.
