Walmart has led bulbs over 100 lpw for $2, for a while. Not sure why i woulf want a 55 lpw cfl. The 800 lumen version is bright. Out of 30 purchased, 2 were bad. I prefer the 4.5 watt ones. . As a bonus, the led bulb are made in china: Quote of flaming comment removed
I bought 4 packs of 40 and 60 watt CFL bulbs at Walmart awhile back for 88 cents a pack or about 25 cents each. I will use them all up before I invest in LED bulbs.

IME the CFL often don't even last as long as incandescents. They are heavy and get hotter that I thought they would. The base often doesn't fit or topples small lamps.

LED'S are still too expensive. Do they even make 3 way LED for lamps?

As long as incandescents that do the job are still cheaper and easily found I won't switch again. I went all CFL years ago when it was the rage. It was a waste of time, effort, and money. I won't make the same mistake with expensive LED.

I always hated them. Even the "instant on" CFLs took a few minutes to reach max brightness. Then they get dimmer month after month, noticeable to even the less than keen eyes.

LEDs are dirt cheap now, but you still want to consider the quality and what that's worth to you. The usual $7.99/4 packs will get the job done, but why bother? Spend a little more, about $4.50 per bulb and get a good one. I always promote the Hyperikon bulbs since they are high CRI and you choose the flavor (2700K, 3000K, 4000K, 5000K). With that selection along with high CRI, standard A19 small format, Energy star, UL listed, you really can't complain. I've been running mine hard with no issues.

Yes there are 3 way LED bulbs..... 40/60/100 and 50/100/150 for $15+ each I think.

I'm finding plenty from $5.99-13.99 online, some up to 85CRI. Not bad, but I don't want to take the chance yet. 90+ CRI and I'll be interested.

I've used 3 way bulbs in the 30/70/100 and 50/100/150 and don't find either range worthwhile having I could get more into something like 15/75/200 myself but LED bulbs at that lumen output would cost a bunch.
