Bark river JX6

Bark river wouldn't void the warranty over that,
I've been surprised before and I'm just scared of it breaking on down the blade later on.

I didn't torque the blade in any way. I was running it straight down the middle of the skull between the eyes to seperate the halves of skin. It is a very very minor break.

BB, Sounds like you have plenty backup blades. I'd wait and see what those Bark River guys say about the HT.. Agreed, it more than likely might break again. Good you're not into it for too much money

Put as fine an edge on it as you can, wittle bamboo skewers or chopsticks or another hardwood, see what the edge does when torqued a little… for fine edges, like 15 dpa or so, a smidgen of roughness would be acceptable with mild torque, i wouldn't expect edge rolling

I'm a mediator. I use machines to sharpen knives and mod bare metal flashlight hosts.
A friend works in a slaughter house. Paper wheels works fast. It takes a feel and finesse. As fast as he can get a razor sharp edge, it's just as easy for a novice (me) to ruin edges

Mediator... I thought you were a Terminator (-;

I end disputes by all methods

Paper wheels sharpen from dull to razor sharp in 2 mins. It's nuts. Doesn't take too much practice to get a feel for the angle, stroke and pressure. My 1x30 lays flat. As much as I try to sharpen with a belt positioned vertical I just cannot get it down. My natural mechanics and eyes are just better at a belt laying flat.

I've tried the Tormek. It's nice but just can't beat the speed of wheels and a belt.

Here's my skinner…as you can see it still looks new. Haha

They contacted me back today. 35 dollars shipping and handling fee for warranty work on top of however much it costs to actually ship it. Not so sure that's a great deal on something I can fix myself for free.

So they didn't think the ELMAX HT was too brittle on your sample, it's not uncommon for tips snapping off?
Yeah, heck, do your own fix. Unless CS said you'll get a totally new blade, then I'd go with Magnacut replacement

They didn't say anything at all I called them and asked if it was 35 dollars just for warranty work and the "very nice 😁" lady said it's 35 dollars any shipping and handling wether they do anything or not. I asked how you pay and she said you can put a check or money order in the box 🤔….. or wait for an invoice.

I said thanks for the help, she said "oh you bet" in the most sarcastic tone ever and hung up. Hahaha

From what I've read about their CS, and after your experience, I doubt I'll buy a new knife directly from BR.. Like you, possibly buy from a friend or secondary marketplace..

I knew folks (bikers) from MI.. Some folks there aren't the friendliest. They don't express much hospitality like Southern states. Still no excuse for your treatment

Ahh she was probably just tired of answering the same question over and over. The website is no help at all
