Also, if you are using the wrong mantles, they might be too small to burn right up against the generator and keep it warm.

Am using correct mantles. Tried couple of difference sources for kero. One was ultra-pure coleman kero for lanterns!

The mixture was good. There was no smoke/soot, but it was like being near a diesel truck.
