i use them when the power goes out. With 3-4 of these you have light in every major room.

They work under (fresh) water with an alkaline battery.

Exactly! That was why I began building these 16 years ago. The power used to go out at our house regularly, and I had a supply of mostly dead AA batteries from my wife and son.

These are fantastic and I've gifted several of them.
Also, don't forget the chapstik tube cap diffuser. These will run for about 30 days straight on a fresh "D" cell.

What is the max input voltage? Wouldn't want it to go *poof* on the first try.

Max voltage is listed next to each item, e.g. "7. 1.5V Original VoltVamp [...]" would be for alkaline batteries for instance, but not for CR123s. It could be a size D cell but it would work as those are still 1.5V.

Some of them are 1.5v only, others are 1.5 to 3 or 3.7v. Input voltage is stated in each description.
