I have a question and H22A's aparently on vacation so its open to anyone that can answer...I am wanting to build a 2D maglight with a XM-L2 driven at 2.8A with an aspheric lens made for throw, I don't care if its adjustible or not, I'll just leave it all the way "zoomed in" if it is. I don't currently have a maglight host so I can buy either incan or LED when I have the rest of the stuff.

I'm thinkin I should get the rebel version so I can have the head tightened down farther while still being far enough from the lens to the led to be fully zoomed in, is that correcting thinking or completely wrong? I just don't want the head to be 80% unscrewed for it to be at full zoom.

I'm sorry for late reply. I have no experience with aspheric lenses. However, there was a customer while back experimenting with rebel heatsink with aspheric lens, but I haven't received feedback. If you are looking for deep enough hetsink with XM-L set up, Rebel heatsink is the only choice.

Hi all,

I have a few questions :

To finish my Mag 3D-size mod I need a heatsink. Here is what I planned back in 2010 : https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/303088 .

In 2010 I ordered 2 Cree XPG-R5 LEDs on Ceramic PCB (8mm x 8mm), I will use one in this project.
(I think that using 2 of them won't fit in the stock reflector of the Mag 3D, plus Alkaline D cells won't deliver enough current to light them up @ 1.4A x2)

As I understand, "DHS bare aluminum Cree D-size" fits in my project.
Can anyone confirm this ?

regards,
Dag

Yep but if using a star get the flattop variant.

Also consider the p7 flattop. Way more aluminium for heat dissipation.
Although you dont seem to want to drive it too hard so either would be fine.
