Some personal perspective:
I do love watches... my watch hobby has evolved into a small collection.
I switch out what watch I wear pretty much every day, and I wear a watch 24/7, except in the shower.
Most of my watches are kept in a drawer - and nothing extravagant, nor-stupidly expensive here. Not "cheap", but sensibly priced.
BUT, I do have eight solar-charged watches, so those I keep on top of a cabinet (which happens to face a window across the room). These watches see some light every day and thus remain at full solar charge, at all times. Four are Citizen Eco-Drive, two are Oceanus, one is Seiko, and one is a G-Shock.
Much as I love my automatic mechanical watches, I must say that the solar charged quartz watches are the easiest, most convenient, most fuss-free, and most time-accurate watches I have. There is a LOT to be said for that!
But wait... there's MORE: as a bonus... solar watches tend to be quite sensibly priced, too! Win, win, win!
