I just got a light from DX, R2 led - 18650. The reflector is all OP, yet there is hardly any flood or spill, and just a tight hotspot. Is it possible to spray it with some clean lacquer or something to get rid of the hotspot?

I'd first look on www.flashlightlens.com to see if there is a compatible lens and add Light Diffusing Film. I myself, prefer a floodier beam than a tight hotspot and find the LDF does a very good job of spreading out the hot spot.

other than the surface finish, the hotspot could be contributed by the design of the reflector, the deeper it is, the more throw a light will have.

Yes you can. Do a search on sputtering. If you sputter it a bit differently than usual you can get a lot of flood out of it but will also loose a bit of brightness.

Krylon crystal clear sputtering works very well.

Very short bursts from a good distance away. Try leting it mist down onto it so to speak. Practice on a mirror first.
