I completed the checklist below ( I did not do a great job at the checklist I'm afraid) but thought I would add some comments that might help provide clarity and a point of reference. I use lighting in outdoor situations frequently and my headlamps (Zebralight mostly) usually cover my needs pretty well- although there are times where I would like a more powerful light.
I encountered a situation on a rural country road where I needed a bright light in my vehicle for the sake of safety. I came upon a car that was having mechanical issues and there was a large truck trying to assist the driver. The guy trying to help had a truck with a serious lift kit and his headlight were oppressively bright. Bright enough that I could not see anything except his lights. Traffic was backing up behind him and he was oblivious as the the impact of his bright lights as he was trying to direct cars behind him and the disabled car. I think he was trying to direct traffic and he was trying to yell something in my direction but I could not hear what he was saying for the road noise and could not see anything. I could not move forward and there was nowhere to turn around or get off the road. At some point one of the drivers behind him and sped away almost hitting me as they drove by. If I would have had a light bright enough to see the road beside the disabled car perhaps I could have drove around them and actually could have helped the other cars. It was very frustrating and we when I did creep forward another car almost hit me again. Some of those drivers had been backed up for quite some time and they were getting impatient.
Anyway I was really wishing I had something with a super bright beam so at least I could have made the guy in the jacked up truck aware of my situation. His lights were insanely bright and me and the cars behind me could see nothing. That situation was the thing that really convinced me I needed a brighter than normal light. I actually would use in some at the coast also when night boat riding.
One light I had considered was the Olight Mini Marauder and that might be what I go with but I was hoping to see about other recommendations. The light I am looking for doesn't need to be compact and since I am not looking to do this but once I am prepared to spend an adequate amount to get a good quality light.
