Malkoff MDC - The “Poor Man's Haiku” - Another Ideal EDC

Nick. That looks really nice.
I am waiting on a Steel Flame Crusader clip to put on mine.

Only wished someone can bore the MDC pak to take a 18mm cell. Double the runtime.

Below is a stock image for SF/Haiku.

One more shot for size comparison to some other familiar lights. HDS clicky on the left and Prometheus AAA beta QR on the far right.

@ KDM,
Could you do a side by side photo of the mule head and an E head?. Curious if one of Tana's TripLED's would fit. Thanks.

@KDM

Those are some sweet looking lights! I'm still learning about all of the mix and matching of parts. Being a noob, I don't understand it all yet, but the Malkoff stuff seems to be good stuff for the $. Enjoying your lights.

@BenChiew

That
Steel Flame Crusader clip looks sweet! Nice and custom. Wow you guys have some sharp gear!

I don't believe there is enough length for the LE and optics but someone might be able to build one to squeeze in there. Here's a E2E triple on the 123 body.

.

I have a MDC that has a 3-mode drop-in (100-50-strobe). I tried, but I really hate forward clicky with multi-mode UI that use tail switch to change mode. Is there anyway to remove the bezel to replace the drop-in without using the malkoff tool? I doubt I'll need it more than once and would prefer to spend the money on the drop-in instead.

I have VME head, but since the MDC came originally anodized a nice blue, I want to keep the host in its complete form.

Thanks.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the standard MDC does not have a removable drop-in. That's why it is so much more compact compared with the VME.

The MDC head has a built in LED module. It is not like the standard P60 type of M61/31 drop in variants that can be removed and used in other hosts. The bezel/head and LED module are all one. The bezel/head can be used with other "E" type hosts.

well, that sucks...I guess I'll have to sell this one since I just can't get used to the UI, I'd much prefer a reverse clicky in multi-mode lights.

I recently got a MDC 219b from IS. Runs on a CR123 and doesn't support li-ions. The modes are well spaced and the tint is clean white. Very happy with it.

Yes 4500 k and 85+ cri. These must be nice bins because they are a little purer white than my HDS 219Bs - small difference that you can see in side by side comparisons. The 219b MDC is even closer to being a poor man's Haiku.

Note that it runs on a CR123 primary and does not support li-ion rechargeable cells. And the specs listed are for the XP-G2 and not the 219b. Take a look at the MDC thread for more info.

Awesome! Feel free to post any cool MDC legos you come up with. These parts are really handy to swap around. :)

My new mdc arrived today :party:
The only thing I don't like is the pocket clip. It's great in the pocket but I want a clip that will allow a better tail stand. Hopefully someone can tell me what the options are.
Thanks

Measure the distance between the screws, go to a knife site and order away. I've seen a picture of an MDC with a McGizmo clip and I believe the Vital Gear FB clip can also fit with a little squeeze. Personally, I like the deep carry approach.
