What LED? Luminous SST40

Color temperature? ~6000K

CRI? Maybe low 90ks?

Price? ~$80

Link provided did not work for me…

I'll be honest, I like the older LD30 better. Mostly because of the shorter length. A very nice, compact, 18650 light.

Bottom link has be fixed. Thanks!

Does this work with unprotected 18650?
Fenix engineers conduct all tests using a Fenix protected 18650 battery. So, they usually won't comment on another type. There are some "dangers" associated with an unprotected battery.

Rather easy to deal with. Use a light, once you see a sudden drop in output, immediately switch the light off. Don't use it until after the unprotected cell has been fully charged up again.

There are situations where this could create a danger on another level: law enforcement, security, first responders, military, search and rescue, etc. These are some of the markets where Fenix products are highly used.

True. Those individuals would need a dual-fuel back-up in place.
When hurricane Katrina hit, after the first night of constant use with older rechargeable lights from brands like Streamlight; police officers had non-functioning lights in their hands because they couldn't spare the hours needed to charge them up! Just constantly using their lights.

I definitely like the fact that quite a Fenix models can run off of CR123A lithium primaries if their rechargeable models get run for too long during state-wide emergencies.

And since I have this opportunity.... Any chance Fenix will introduce an updated version of the PD40R? One in which modes are selected by the rotating bezel, but the light remains off until a forward-clicky tailcap switch is hit. That would be the ultimate compact Duty Light. With zero chance of accidental activation in the wrong mode during a particular situation on the job. I think Fenix missed a fantastic opportunity by making that model a twist to turn on ONLY light.
