NiCads, NiMH, lithium batteries in bulk

Lots of different capacity AA NiMH batteries; higher capacity one are more expensive, and lower capacity ones are cheaper.
2700 mAH sub C cells. 6/$32. I wonder if these would work to make a battery pack for my UltraStinger; although they are listed as 'great for RC applications' It's worth a call to their 800 number, though.
7500 mAH NiMH D cells (!) are $22/pair.

Looks like a good idea!
But since the charger is not a smart one, You probably will need to charge longer. It would be more like 15 hours instead of 10, if we extrapolate the rate of 180 ma.
Checking them at different times and stopping when the cells hit 1.25 volts would probably work. I have an ultrastinger too and I would be interested in this.
