Here are some options that may work for you.
This one is a little bit above your budget, but a really nice headlamp.

Here's one within your budget:

This one is just slightly over your budget, but will accept AA or 14500 batteries.

Good luck with your decision 👍

A bit of a necro-bump.
Duracell 150 Lumen EDC Right-Angle Flashlight and Headlamp
Uses 1 x AA battery. Just like the OP wanted.
Has 3 brightness levels. The 50lm is OK for arm's length work.
Currently $12 on amazon.
Cheap enough so if it walks off, no big loss.
I would sure stay away from any lithium powered lights given the circumstances.
Want rechargeable? Get some eneloops for it.
All the Best,
Jeff

If you have to leave it anywhere, get a cheap light from home depot, or a wall mart. they will fit your requirements just fine. even if it does not "walk" it could be misused, broken by other people who'll try to use it. especially when it is a nice light with complicated UI. Seen it 100s of times, if it is someone else's stuff no one cares about.
