How long on high till too hot to hold?

I've never pushed myself to failure on the hot potato.
It does get hot no doubt. If I think I'll need turbo then I'll select a different light that can better handle those needs.
But a different light that can better handle max output most likely isn't a pocketable do-it-all light either.

The coolness in the light is the wide lumen range in a pocket light. With that VN4 driver, you can have a firefly to a wide open turbo when the extreme situation demands.

If I use turbo with that light then I'm also moving backwards to avoid a situation or get out of one.
In that use you won't feel the heat.

I'd bet it's good nights are cold and thick gloves add insulation. Plus he probably has it mounted on a tripod
I do have the camera on a tripod so I can keep the ISO low and the shutter speed long.
That XXI light needs on a tripod so I can back up and capture the entire beam profile with the lens that I have.

Do you also own a KR1vn? SBT90? Asking because for a long time I tried choosing between this light and the KR1vn and couldn't decide which I preferred. If so, please share your thoughts and opinions on these two comparatively.

Ultimately it comes down to size-to-throw ratio. I continue to suspect that the XXI is more impressive as it's significantly more pocketable with a dramatically smaller head size. Also I've found that the greater the output to small size ratio, the more immediate 1 meter light-saber effect seems to emit from the head. Which is especially nice for wow-impressions indoors.

I never pulled the trigger on either of them due to funds, but these two lights I feel have set a new EDC standard and if I had the money I totally would have one or both by this point. I did get the KR1vn for my father, but I've never held it. Shipped directly to him.

I do not. Only other similar light I have is the 18650 version of the XXI. (The 18650 version is just as impressive)
I would like a KR1vn. I've looked at it many times but just never go through with it.

That huge lumen range is where it's at for EDC in non-defensive situations.
I say non-defensive because you don't want to shuffle through 5 modes or double tap to 100 in a defensive situation.
Last night my fingers got so cold that I couldn't consistently double tap for 100% output.
That's not the lights fault.

I used the XXI on firefly to light up the paper I used to write down the order I took beamshots. I had a few lights with me.

Kerneldrop, how well does this XXI SBT90 transfer heat to the body of the light within the first 20 or 30 seconds of turbo? Is it well distributed or just a hot head with a drop-off point?

I just tried it. It's 80 degrees where I'm at.
It takes 10 seconds for my fingers closest to the head to feel heat.
At 30 seconds heat stops at where my nail is. The heat quickly goes away. I'm not sure the heat is sufficient to warm the hand or even the fingers closest to the head, which is a good thing for me.

Kerneldrop's pic is right as far as heat transfer. Running a Samsung 40T in mine, with room temp at 65degrees, the head will hit 170degrees at about 45seconds in turbo, the body will be around 103-111 degrees.
