Re: Original HDS = Coolest Ever
What's the runtime of the newer lights from Henry when running at 40 or 60 lumens?
All I'm trying to say is we've progressed, and I prefer to use one of Henries newer lights! more horsepower with much better fuel economy.
I'm not knocking HDS in any way.

The driver has not changed a lot, the older driver was even more ( a lot more...) efficient on lowest output since it was a clever combination of analog and PWM regulation. The newest model don't use PWM at all (as far as I know...).
Yes, you need to change the emitter ( 15-20 minutes job) but once it's done, the light is fantastic. Just like on any Surefire, Mcgizmo or other high quality light. Emitters are improving fast and this model can be very easily updated.
I have a standard ULTIMATE moded with an XM-L that can sustained near 300 lumens (guestimate with ceiling bounce compared to an SC600 set on 330 lumens) so it can run for 30 minutes on high. I then guess it can easily run for a good hour on 200 lumens, quite comparable to any newer lights out there.
Of course, I don't trash your opinion Norm, but comparing this light with a T model is not an accurate comparison. The host, the design, the UI and the engine is still perfectly within today standard, it's just a matter of LED...
There is not many new lights that can claim to have potted electronics, overheating protection, complete programability, advanced electronic features like locator flash, electronic lockout, overdischarge protection, complete flat power regulation, auto-detection of cell chemistry, bomb-proof host, 3mm thick lens, option of having memory mode turned off or on, many cell possibility (1 XCR123, 2 X CR123, 1X RCR, 17670, 18650, 2X AA).
And I'm not blinded by HDS, I own many other fine lights from a lot of different companies but which one do I take with me for trekking 1 week in wild woods ? Take a guess...
Newer is not necessarily better
