Got the TK50 yesterday. Haven't tried it out yet, but it sure has the looks of a true flashlight, its beautiful:). I just shined it on a wall and the two low levels are the same, but somebody here wrote that is normal. I will buy the GP 7000 or 9000mAh rechargeable batteries for it.
 
I must say I am kind of disappointed with the TK50. It does throw a long way, but at close up you have to use it on high to see anything in details and then the spot bothers me, its frustrating. I even find the LD10 more useful. I hope the TK41 is miles better than this, does anybody have both flash lights to comment on this?

When using two 1.5v fresh alkarine batteries, low level is same as med. in brightness due to circuit. But 1.2v rechargeable cells make two levels different.

The light is not EDC but some kind of thrower because it has a big & smooth reflector with XP-G R5. You don't need to access high mode(level) at a close distance with the light. :rolleyes:

I never saw it before because I'm generally not interested in D Cell lights, but I had to get some D-Cell NiMH for other purposes and now I'm looking at the TK50 and TK70.
 
Well I really think TK50 is a good looking light, but I don't think you will be happy with it unless you have this light for a specific purpose, like hunting(where lighting isn't illegal). Trust me I think the TK50 isn't the flash light you want. Throw is the main purpose of this light, but for EDC tasks even the LD10 beats the TK50 imo.

If you can't buy good D cells, you can use AA sized Ni-Mh cells by using the adapter as well. ;)

Yes, I understand what you mean. It is powered by 2xD cells and LD10 1xAA I have as well. LD10 is the compact light in daily use.
I think TK50 is for outdoor activities(life) like camping, hiking mainly.
All the lights have both merits and demerits. The choice is users. :naughty:

In your reply concerning how long the two AA-D converters would run you say the time would be approximately two hours. Given that the converters use 2 cells times two converters at 2000mah per cell shouldn't the light run for over four hours? Just learning about this stuff but I'd like to know how this is calculated. Anyone else feel free to help. Thanks.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I haven't been on this site in a while. If you think of the two AA batteries in a D adapter as one D cell with 4000ma of capacity it might help. Connecting them in series only increases your voltage to 2.4volts but capacity remains the same. At a 1.8amp draw each cell would have a load (current draw) of 900ma. At that current draw even Eneloops won't see their rated capacity but they should give close to 2 hours of operational time in Turbo.

That's decent run times. The best part is not worrying about battery leakage. Hopefully someday Sanyo will make "D" Eneloops. Wishful thinking?
I would live to see this, as well, since I have a few 2D and 6D Maglites, and tons of Eneloops - but none in size D - yet...
 
Many thanks for an excellent review candle lamp,great pictures as usual and has helped my decide on this for my next work light.I have been using a t7 on 4xAAA batts,life of around 8hrs hours of useful light(probably less than 40lm by then).Hoping this on high or medium should outlast being 2d(also more substantial too).Oh and a little expansion on my Fenix collection:D after my tk51. What next...........the tk76 maybe in January/Feb.........

this light is one of my favorites, despite the size and low lumens..
i sent one recently to vinh for mod. i think modded tk50 would like the most...!!!:D

I do like the look/size of it,also i dont need 2000lm in work so high output is not important.Just a well built light that takes d batts and from what is have seen the output is very good considering the "low" lm....

Be very interested on the vinh mod either way,although i dont need it its better to have and not need than to need and not have:D

i agree... i just mentioned of low lumens because it's something that a lot of people discuss about, on the tk50.
unfortunately, the modded tk50 hasn't arrived yet in order to tell..
but soon (i hope so..), when i have it back i'll do some tests with the stock one. (party time..!!!:D)
the mod was in terms of throw, as it is what i need most..
 
What did you have Vinh do? Did you stay with the XPG or move up to the XML?

the choice is on him... i don't know what he did, a surprise for now...!!!!:thumbsup:

Funny you should ask what I think. I've been trying to decide which LED to use in my TK50 if I have Vinh modify it. I was wondering if Vinh gave you some recommendations.

Comparing the reflector to my TK41 and TK60 I'm convinced all three are exactly the same. If Vinh could get the current up to 3-3.5amps at the LED on Turbo then a de-domed 6500K XML2 would easily out throw a stock TK41 or TK60. I have a TK60 he de-domed an XML2 and with the current still around 2.8amps at the LED it is incredible how much it out throws my other TK41/60s.

So depending on how much current increase Vinh can get to the LED an XML2 might be a good choice. For me it would just duplicate what I already have so I might go with a de-domed XPG2. Still trying to decide.

I have a Lambda 2D Maglite designed to run on 2D cells with a simple single mode driver that gets close to 3amps to the LED so the only limitation would be the Fenix drivers in the TK50. Depends how much Vinh can bump the current up. Of course if you aren't using Nimh D cells then sticking with the XPG would probably be best. Alkaline batteries would not handle the current draw for very long (couple minutes at best) and then your light would keep getting dimmer.

As for a Lux number on the TK60vn I will go out on a limb and say over 100K at 1 meter and I wouldn't be surprised if it was a fair amount more. I'm very impressed with the throw and working with Vinh to see if he can get more current to the LED in Turbo mode.

Let me know what Vinh comes up with for your TK50, I will be very interested.
 
I just compared the throw of my TK60Vn compared to my stock TK70 and the TK60Vn easily out throws the TK70. The stock TK70 is just over 130K Lux so the TK60Vn should be over 150K.
 
Well it arrived at work today:D not properly tested as near home time but more than happy with size/feel/build/quality as to me it feels like a "proper light".Substantial ,well mad but not too big if makes sense.

Looped the lanyard so it tightens on wrist if dropped(i tend to do that a lot)


It sort of replaces my workhorse ,the t7(sorry for blurred pic) which has done me proud for years,been dropped more times than i can remember.I will still use the t7..........just not as much,main downside is it loves to roll.......the tk50 wont.Just need to decide on which diffuser to use on it,nitecore or thrunite flip.
