How many spare parts are yall keeping on hand?

Is 1 spare switch and 1 spare lens per light enough?
1 spare switch after learning that having no spares on hand sucks. Last year I had my first McClicky fail. Thankfully It was right before taking the light out and of course we all have multiple Malkoffs so I just grabbed another. Guess that counts as a spare. Anyway, ordered a replacement switch and a spare so I will have near zero downtime next time. Shipping is decently fast but when you're down, each day feels way too long.
 
What 18350 will you be using? I haven't found any way to get protected 18350s in an md2.
The Vapcell 18350 cells do fit in the MD2 just fine. I got the flat top and had to use a small magnet. I'll have to get a button top set next time.

Full power with the M91T with OK runtime at 1600 mah and hi low ring should work out pretty well!
 
Measurements on illums website looks like they would work in a 21700 body, is that the case with the protected cells? I'm about to try the Vapcell in the 21700 after charging them up.
Actually it does fit the 21700 body quite nicely. This is flush with a magnet on between the two to help with contact.

Which drop in do you use with that 21700 body? I'm curious about the runtime 4000k sst20 version with a 5000 mah battery
 
M361 but I do have an M61N I can try.

I run 6000 mah batteries though.

2x26650 5000 mah on my M91BW ran quite a long time. Well over a 5 hour power outage.
I would really appreciate it if you could do a test on that m61 ..I can't find it anywhere. I'm curious if the light can hold 400 lumens for 4 hours

There is a very good runtime test on this site showing various drop ins and batteries. It's older but gives a good baseline.

The math shows it should go well over 4 hours though.

Am I reading this right..The m61n 400 lumen version is only putting out 336 lumens for 1.25 hrs, it cannot maintain its brightness for more than that?

So if I get the 21700 body with a m361 4000k drop in and a 5000 mah cell, I will probably get 400 lumens for 2 hrs before the light starts dimming?

Does the m361 drop in put out actual 400 lumens or is it gonna be 336?

Also the 4 hour estimated runtime seems to be total runtime but the light cannot sustain 400 lumens for 4 hours?

Is this correct?

My zebralight sc700 can sustain 500 for full 4 hours

Id like to know this before I pull the trigger.

The m361 drop in, + the mdx head + 21700 body is like $200

Never really noticed. My line of work and use is in bursts. I have run an MDC for long periods of time and do notice the step down but this is after a very long time and probably mostly due to the cells and not the light itself. Regulation is pretty tight on these lights.

M361 is the 3 mode and 750 lumen max. You're looking for the M61N which would run cheaper.

You're looking at a single cell on the graph.

You'd be running two cells, so you'd want to look more at the MD3 18500 run time, and adjust your run time accordingly, based on battery capacity.

Generally, you aren't getting a Malkoff for raw performance, but for reliability and durability (and a great reflector).

Honestly, depending on what you're doing, an M61NL/M61L with a single 21700 might work better. 230 lumens vs 500 lumens isn't as stark as you'd imagine, and the L and LL Malkoff drop-ins are the way to go for runtime. Also, if you run one cell, you can run a single, protected 21700. If your plan is to run these dry, I wouldn't want to use unprotected cells. Malkoff assumes you're using protected cells, so there is no LVP (since these are designed to run CR123A's dead).


Also, I'm not sure exactly which SC700 you have, but that "...can 500 lumens for full 4 hours" might not be exactly the case...?

400 lumen that is stated on the website is also stated at 6 volts. You are under volting by running a single cell AND still demanding full output? That's pretty unreasonable.

Kosen has a brighter M61H that might be more what you are looking for although it will be a bit more power hungry.

Again that's the M361 3 mode 750 lumen max (cool). You were asking for the M61N Single Mode. This is rated 400 lumens at 6 volts.

Yes the M361 is rated pretty consistently and is why I run it on the 21700.

Anyway for the most part the more voltage you give em the more efficient they run. It's one of the reasons I wanted to play with the 18350 or MD4 etc. hopefully soon Malkoff makes the 2x21700 or someone makes a shorter 21350 battery...

I think I'll be sticking with my zebra light
