20 degrees this morning. Has not rained in quite some time. Its prime steelhead season and the rivers are way to low and the water is to cold.

This morning, I noticed another driver keeping himself no more than ~30ft off the tail end of one of those salt/brine trucks. It was actively preparing the roadway, too.
~300ft behind, my own car still got a faint coating of the stuff on it. Fortunately, today was touchless-wash day so I zipped into the neighborhood wash for a quickie. Better than nothing. But it's cold enough that any two-bucket method would end up with a layer of ice over the paint and probably one or two fingers left behind. No thank you.
Old Man Winter is eatin' his Wheaties, this past month and a half or so. And to think we've still got another two months to go.

Well, the forecasts for my area are getting a little more solid ... with lower temps than were expected earlier.
Likely: sub-0ºF, with wind chill in the mid-negative teens or lower.
The expected snow is dealt with easily enough, at least for me. No urgent need to exit the home, a good AWD vehicle with winter-capable tires, and well-stocked. But it's the threat of significant ice that comes with this sort of weather system that has me wondering.
I sure hope the local utilities group has their act together. But who am I kidding. My guess is, if ice does strike then it'll mean longer-term power outages. All the evidence I've seen of growing vines, kudzu and limbs over the power lines in the area can't be a good thing.
Could be worse, though. Could be a 500ft tsunami or an asteroid strike ... or both.

Welllll..... this is a flashlight forum. What are you planning on using for the outage? How many hours of light do you have on-hand? Which lights?

I'm jealous of you. That's some Summer-like weather compared to what we're getting in NYC.

Figured it's a "weather" discussion. Not a "Dang, I crashed my shin into the bedpost again" discussion, so I withheld those remarks in respectful non-consideration of the banged shin memory. Yeah, well, that didn't turn out the way I imagined ... thank you.
My formula: Before banging the shin in the dark = Grab the Malkoff M61 1x18650. Works well.
Plus, failure to have first grabbed the Malkoff in the dark, then subsequently finding myself on the floor post shin-bang, I figure such expletives-deleted are best screamed in the dark. No need for a flashlight at that point, anyway.

A few years ago, I'd be worried how I'm going to drive to work. Nope!
I have an elderly mother to take care of. I've been stuck at work, forced to work an extra shift at zero minutes notice numerous times in the past. If it's as bad as they say it is, someone else can stay behind and do the mandatory overtime. Would rather not lose out on a day's pay, but at the same time; my Life is worth more than a day's pay.

Oh, noooo! Expletives because they're so immovable. Leastwise, when my toes or shins are involved.
Hence the "deleted" part. Though I'm sure the neighbors 750yds across the ridge know whenever I've pulled another Carter (as in "There you go again ...").
Yeah, well. Age has its virtues. At least, so I've been told.
Now, where's that bottle of Taylor's vintage. Time to break out the good stuff.
That's why I keep a Mr Beams MB530 light in the bedroom, on the floor. Dim glow at night, goes to full brightness upon motion. No stubbed toes or smacked shins. Win/win.
