Frickin' 12!!!
With a huge snow-storm predicted to hit just after Midnight, tomorrow.
So, just after an hour into my 3rd shift job. 🤬

Seriously:: I have this little Owl thermometer in the front of my house,, it's stuck at almost -20F (-29Celsius for the rest of the planet)

It's been very cold and will not even get into wind chill numbers now
 
Temp is just above single digits. A bit windy, so the wind chill index is sub-0ºF. Snow is supposed to begin in a few hours. But it looks like the ice will miss us by ~100mi or so.

Yeah, well according the logic, then, I'm gettin' more virtuous every day.

Gotta love that.

Won't like shoveling a foot+ of snow, in another day ... Perhaps I won't be that "virtuous". Squirrels gotta have fun, too.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen any squirrels or small birds, this past ~36hrs or so. Too frigid, I think. They all must have found some nice hidey-hole to hunker down in. It's begun to "smell" a bit like snow on the air, so it's coming ...

Why do people live and stay in Wisconsin?

Three reasons:
1. not many people
2. Spring is beautiful and Fall is amazing
3. not many people

... I'd give a fourth reason but certainly repeat myself

What, my budding virtuousness (aging decrepitude) or the squirrels' take on things? 🤣

I look at it this way: At least I haven't froze my tongue to the flag pole. Not everyone can say that, across a winter. (What with all the silly TikTok, InstaGram and Youtube challenges, who knows what some are capable of.)
 
Another chilly week just started for me here in Norway. Estimated between -20°C and -28°C (-4°F and -18°F) from now and until Friday.

But no worries, we are well catered for in terms of firewood, food and lighting.
I do need to contact my supervisor again though, because that is borderline "staying at home"-temps for us.

Actually, you're not far off there. I got enough warm clothes to handle the cold better than my car does.
Work is 45 km away though (28 miles), so not exactly "strutting distance" when it's -30°C. ^^

I'd say between 45F-65F is more appropriate weather for shoveling snow. Too darn cold if it's less than that, and above that the weather will clear it out quick enough.

For sure, that is pretty much a necessity here.
But driving a damn diesel, even that only works down to a certain point. Below -25°C, and my car (2008 VW Caddy 1,9 TDi) won't start at all. Which has happened twice when leaving - or trying to leave - work. And both times has been on 23. December, the last day before the Christmas holidays.

My workplace is further down the valley, so when it's -20°C where I live, it's more like -30°C at work. Like it is right now.

Good point about cranking problems, in frigid cold.

Haven't ever owned a vehicle with an engine block heater plug. Though I live in a place that does have occasional sub-0ºF days, I can generally avoid using the car then. Would be nice to have an engine block plug, keeping it warm at home, along with a row of such at larger businesses and parking areas.

In my area, it's currently hovering between 12-14ºF and snowing. (Sure beats sub-zero.) It has already snowed ~5", and we might see another 8-10" by end of day. A good day to stay inside, bundled up.

I got a DEFA block heater (don't know exactly which model), a quick connector on the battery for a Ctek MXS 5.0 Polar battery charger, and I have a Noco Genius GB40 booster.

The charger and booster is now part of my "winter bag", that I bring with me on cold days, in addition to more warm clothes and a power bank.

They should move to Wyoming. Even less people.

Also, that Killer storm hit NYC at 5:27am, today.
Thankfully it started off slow. My relief came in.
I cleaned off my car, hit the expressway that was already plowed and salted.
Just got home a little while ago. I do feel sorry for my relief, but there have been a few times when I was the one stuck at work for an unexpected double-shift because of snow. I'm scheduled to work tonight. I'll see how bad the snow is, and if I have to call out. Something I haven't done in over 5 years.
