I’m not going to say things are going in the wrong direction. This is still one of the only companies I know that I can not only call and talk to a human, but talk to the owner himself. He’s still making awesome lights for us.
I know a lot of us has been super supporters of Malkoff lights over the years so it’s a bummer when something disappears or stuff we like can’t be put together. But, I can’t imagine the number of requests he gets from groups, other companies, individuals etc, where he and his crew have to decide what to build. Probably one of those damned if you, damned if you don’t type of things. All I know, is that as long as I have an MDC AA light around, I can’t complain about much.

It doesn't sound like it. The 219b has been discontinued for a while. I wonder if that is a factor, regardless of whether they sold well?
I wonder if there are changes to the driver, maybe something was simplified for production or component availability reasons and there isn't a place for whatever resistor (or whatever) was used, or there's some incompatibility with some changed circuit component now. I obviously don't know anything though, just speculating.
