It's worse during the world cup....they'll treat each other like soccer balls after the game...
 
I don't like bad bunny or kid rock. But at least kid rock makes great music or at least I like his rock
 
I'm glad I watched because I got to see lady gaga and I like when he said God bless America and the other country's

I'm not negating the feels, but no one calls themself "american" unless you're from the US. There are two large continents that are called 'america'. Only those from the US are called americans.
That isn't an egotistical or isolationist view. The whole world says it.

To say that america is more than the US is someone trying to ride on the back of US strength. Why isolate the US in that comment? Why not say 'america' is more than mexico?
Everyone should be standing on their own merits as an individual and as a nation. Mexico, Canada, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil etc. No one from Brazil says they're american. No one from the US says they're from North America. Mexico is a United States. Why isn't anyone saying anything about that?
The United Mexican States? They too are from the US ...of Mexico.
It's because Mexico is easier to say and everyone knows what that means.

The point is not the current context, but to broaden the current context to bring together people who live in the Americas.
I think that is a worthy goal and should be applauded.

Bunny is strictly American though, so having a US citizen make the point is all the more impactful.

I don’t see anything wrong with someone who becomes an American citizen and integrates into the American culture calling themselves American. That right comes with becoming a citizen. It’s their choice. Semantics are just nitpicking.

I agree with that. But it can come across as divisive even if unintentionally so.

Of course. That wasn't my point nor do I think was it his either? Maybe it was?

We're all in this together right? Yes, semantics. But there's a history to the meanings. Canada and Mexico aren't 'american'. They are both important to me personally as a ppl and as nations. Both independent and as partners.

Here's my point - "America IS the US". However, the 'Americas' include all of us on the continent.
I don't care where you're from originally. If you're a US citizen, you're American. However, coming from any of the america's doesn't necessarily make you american. I take a healthy pride in my country as anyone from another should of their own.

I have lot's of family from europe and canada. They are all US citizens and they all consider themselves American. My french-canadian grandmother never considered herself american when she lived in Canada. Even tho' that is also in north america.
I have plenty of friends from Mexico but they don't say that they're from the United States...even tho' technically they were from the United Mexican States....in North America.

Forgive me if I'm that far off. I've had these exact conversations for years and it was always with someone that wanted to degrade the US or use semantics to nullify a name.
Instead, they should be building up the value of their own culture and nations. Don't let the US belittle them, but don't group whole nations together when we clearly aren't. No reason we can't get along, but don't say we're 'all one' because we absolutely aren't. We can still work together for the common good.

I"m rambling - The US does well when its citizens consider themself a part of it. If they are self-segregating or being forced to segregate because of ...reasons... then we have problems.
Conversely, no one should get butthurt if their culture isn't being celebrated enough.
Look at Cinco de Mayo. It has nothing to do with the US. But still gets celebrated because of the integrated culture Mexico has with the US.
