So i quit drinking the end of 2024. Havent had a drop since but ive been struggling lately. So i found a chat room on tiktok .well it was more for drugs which i never did with the exception of weed maybe a few joints in my entire life.or thc. But there was some in room recovering from something called tranq holly molly scary stuff. They started on herion which i thought was worse drug but they said tranq was put in the herion and they didnt know. Its so scarey so never ever do drugs tell everyone the same
 
My desire to never be out of control of my mind or body is why I never touch drugs, including most legal ones. Too many stories about people who got high, then went on a killing spree and don't remember a thing. Or more benignly wake up next to a person who looks like a wildebeast and spend the rest of their life wondering did I do anything with that person?

Definitely against drugs here. Lost my son bc of fentanyl mixed w alcohol is a toxic mixture. .1% of fentanyl, that's less than a grain of salt! When fentanyl first started poking its ugly face out, I read 2mg of fentanyl can kill an adult, but that is not always true. My son laid down to take a nap and never woke up bc of .1% . You never know what is in drugs you take, speaking of illegal drugs. Just staying away is the best plan.

Knowing myself as I do.... The last thing anyone would want is being around me if I ever lost control due to ingesting drugs.

Why do you think bad things like that happen on transit? I rode the subways for three years to go to high school in the late 1970s when crime was very high. I never encountered any violence. The only thing I saw once was when the police shot a person for fare evasion. He was lying on the platform. I read that he died later.

Things are far worse now then they were in the 1970s.
When I rode the subway for college, and years later for work; I'd often nod off.
Didn't give it a 2nd thought. Few years back, a woman did the very same thing....
Some piece of worthless $#&% threw accelerant on her, then lit her on fire!
You can't even doze off for a few minutes on the trains anymore.

You may be right but a common theme during both eras is that it's good to remain alert at all times. And only doze off on a crowded train, or if you're among friends who are remaining awake to keep an eye on potential trouble.

My mother worked selling tokens for the MTA in the late 1970s. Believe me there was still a lot of danger. I don't know if you remember that some crazies were setting token booths on fire back then. And of course my mother had other occupational hazards. Once when she was emptying the tokens from a turnstile she felt a pair of eyes staring at her. It was a HUGE rat the size of a house cat. She bolted for the safety of her token booth and called for help.

I'm aware of the increases but statistically the subway is still safer than being on the street. You can also take many measures to not make yourself a victim. Anecdotally I think a fair amount of the reason for the increase in crime is people making themselves into easier victims by staring at their phones. IMO the worst thing we ever did was put WiFi on the subways. Besides what I mentioned, it now seems to take longer to load trains at busy stations because people are more focused on their phones than on what is happening around them.

On top of this a fair number of people have little choice but to take the trains. Driving is expensive and slow in this city. For 90% of the day the subway gets you where you're going a lot faster.

I meant why do you act like transit is the primary place bad things happen? Specifically I'm referring to when you wrote this:

From the time the subway has been in existence fewer people have died on it then the average number who die on US roads each year. And roughly half the subway deaths are suicides sadly. Many of the rest are track workers.

I'm just saying even with the recent violent crime increases I feel safer on the subway than walking on an average street. We can also attribute much of the violent crime increase to our inability to involuntarily institutionalize people who are a danger to themselves or others. Many of this same cohort also happen to be homeless. The subway is a natural place to seek shelter. End result is a disproportionate number of mentally ill riding the trains. This means more bad things happen but the media exaggerates things. If you read the NY Post you would think entering the subway is like storming the beaches on D-Day.

Now you're just being intellectually dishonest and feebly attempting to deflect. Dude! Just stop! You're worse than a squirrel running back and forth across the street, unable to decide on which side she wants to be. You're constantly touting public mass transit and bemoaning private transportation. Then you have the gall to state you believe in live and let live.

Furthermore, I have never stated anything close to that, which would lead any reasonable person to think I'm acting like transit is the primary place bad things happen.

Those aren't comparable stats at all. I'm glad you feel safe tho'.

"Less ppl have died on the moon than in a car" makes about the same sense.

Anyone that goes on a chemically induced 'spree of harm' isn't hitting your average car. Yes they do that also, but it doesn't compare.
Mass transit isn't private so all have access even violent criminals, violent drug addicts, violent exes, violent mentally ill... Cars are private and the driver is in control and no rails. They can just run the guy over. Self induced psychosis cured! WEEEEEEEEEE!

But on a subway? Especially in NYC, no one pays attention to anyone else. They wouldn't dare. They've seen what happens when someone steps in. Like our beloved friend Daniel Penny.
