Peter, does the premium light have a polished or enhanced reflector or is the machining the finish? I can't really tell from the photos, especially those where the light is turned on.
Perhaps it would alleviate some of the concern by people wishing for the perfectly centered LED. A few seconds with a pyramid shaped polishing wheel and some dental lab rouge ought to do it.
Just a thought.

I just Pre-ordered 2 Premium lights via PayPal. This is my first PayPal transaction using my bank account instead of a credit card. Hopefully it all works out, I think it will, I just need to wait /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I opted to wait for the retail packaging to be ready. As I previously mentioned I've never owned an Arc light before so I want the "total experience" with full packaging for reference and all.
About the receipt numbers people are talking about (ex: #1234), are those sent in another e-mail from Arc? I got a receipt from PayPal but I didn't see a number like the ones mentioned here.

Pics don't do this light proud. You have to own one to really appreciate them. Even though PG and I traded barbs earlier, it really is a good product and you will be in the teeny weenie minority if you don't like it.
I have several special Arc lights, among those are a couple of the AA models, a black widow, turq in black HA, the CPF lights, older LE and given away numerous others as gifts.
More point being that unless you're buying these to be closet queens you'll be so excited to have them that the packaging will be an impedment to your gratification.

Flashlightboy, the reflector is machine finished. When people talk about the centering of the beam, I suspect they are talking about the wobble of the hotspot. That is not noticably affected by the reflector. Remember, the LED has its own reflector inside the epoxy dome that is responsible for the majority of the beam. The flashlight reflector is there to redirect the sidespill forward. You can test this by shining the beam against the wall and occluding the beam with your finger across the lip of the head opening.
The first couple of revisions back in 2001 were actually hand polished using a dremel and some rouge. It took days to do just a few. Someone suggested a machined reflector. I ran some tests that indicated no noticable (to the human eye) difference in the beam so we made the change and didn't look back.
I think I have said before (oh well, it doesn't hurt to repeat myself.. much), the beam will have some wobble in it. That's normal for LEDs in general. What we aim to do is to not let it be noticable in any type of use. Rolling the light on a table is not a lighting use, its a test. If it does well at the 6:1 inch test, then it will likely be fine for flashlight use.
This is true of almost every dimension or spec on the light or anyone's light for that matter. With enough equipment you can reveal all the variations inherit in the materials. I use those methods also. But they are used to keep and eye on things so the dimension never becomes something that is noticable in normal use.
"Flashlight use" in this case basically means using flashlight to for any conceiveable illumination task. I just don't know of any task normal or otherwise that requires a light to be rolled on a table, except during the QC process. I hope you guys are understanding my point. Too much typing this week!
Of course, our return policy doesn't depend on a defect in the light. You just tell me you want your money back and I ask for the light back in the same condition I sold it to you. Simple.

In doing this, our site will generate a order number for you that can be used to pull up your order details, track your package, etc. Some people skipped that and just paypal'ed us money. That is ok. It is just going to take us awhile to sort it out. We might spend an extra week just processing those types of orders. I don't recommend that method if you are in a hurry.
Bascially, anything that is outside the norm will take longer for us to process. We flag those messages and go back to them when we get a chance.

Thanks I received the 4 ARC-Ps yesterday.
The same lovely solid feel as the original, and a beam that is more than acceptably bright for 5 hours on a AAA cell. Many thanks for the extra batts too- a nice bonus.

Ah I see. I did use the site to place the order via PayPal, but I didn't go back to the site after the transaction was finalized! Since I've read all the info on the site I didn't think it would lead to any special wrap-up summary page, I thought it would just lead back to the Arc main page. The cookies are wiped now so I can't get my order number, I just have the PayPal transaction code, and of course my own Postal Code. Does your website order tracker work with Canadian Postal Codes or only US domestic Zip codes?
Don't worry though Peter, I'm in no rush. I'm waiting for the "official" product launch with retail packaging so I'll be waiting a few weeks anyway. I just have no way of knowing my order number until I get an e-mail that my order has been shipped...which is the only time the number becomes useful anyway since tracking a package that hasn't been shipped is futile.

The Jester is probably the perfect choice for a small light/small knife combo. My other suggestion would be the Kiwi in stainless.

Thanks for the knife suggestions. I admit I am not as knowledgable about knives as I would like. I've used the Jester from Spyderco for several years now and I like it. It is small, sharp and never given me any trouble. The idea is to laser mark a few with our Arc logo and sell them in the accessories page as an experiment. They might sell, they might not. If results are good, we might expand the program.
Update on the retail packaging:
The artist working on that says he will have us the latest draft this weekend. I am hoping to get these ordered this coming week so we can ship those soon. I have decided to stick to the original theme and just update the text and some of the graphics. This will give us a more classic look. Once the cards are ordered it will take about 10 days to deliver.
As a result, I would like to revise our shipping estimate for the default orders. These are the orders in the system currently that have not selected the quick ship option. Those orders should go out by August 1st. I previously estimated the 22nd of July but I think we need to allow an extra week.
This coming week we plan on shipping the second batch of quick ship orders. I would estimate they will go out by Friday. We won't be able to get all the quick ship orders however but we should knock out a good number of them.
