I got mine (premium edition) less than an hour ago, and turned it on. Holy cow! This blows my old standard Arc AAA out of the water. I even swapped batteries between the two just in case the old one was weak, and it wasn't even close. It's better than I thought it would be. Nice job, Peter and Merri!! And thanks!!

I got mine today, 36 hours between shipping confirmation and delivery.
After I had tried the light I put it on my key chain, now that was a mistake after taking the key's out of my pocket at least 20 times tonight to play whit the light I have hat to take it out again. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif(It will end in the key chain again later.)

I got mine about an hour ago and another big WOW and woohoo. Just initiated the light with my traditional "shot in the eye". Now i'm seeing spots.

Thanks so much Peter. And thanks to FedEx. They had this scheduled for a Monday delivery and here it is on Thursday.

I received my rather expensively acquired Arc-AAA Premium today, and all I can say is: I'm far, far from impressed.

1) The LED is off center. Not a lot; about the same as my old style $15 CMG Infinity....which cost about 1/3 the $$$, of course. You can see a space on one side of the LED, and rolling the light causes it to project little circles of light.

2) The head has a gritty feel as I turn it. Not what I expected from a $40 flashlight, especially from Arc.

3) With the lithium L-92 from Energizer, it practically takes a pair of vise grips to turn it on. Every other Arc-AAA I've ever owned, or handled, could be relatively easily turned on with one hand. I have small hands, with excellent dexterity in my right hand, and the strength of a considerably larger hand. The is no way I will EVER be able to turn this on with one hand.

I don't always have both hands available.

I NEED my EDC small flashlight to be a one hand light.

Turning the light on with BOTH hands is pretty much of a white knuckle exercise. The head bottoms out, then requires about another 20 or 30 ft. lbs. of torque to turn it on.

Using a Duracell AAA it's somewhat easier to turn on, but I don't want to use alkaline cells of ANY brand, even if I could do it with one hand.

Lithium AAA's just have too many advantages: 1) light weight, 2) brighter output, 3) more consistent output curve. 4) much better cold weather performance, 5) MUCH lighter weight. 6) Did I mention they really cut down on weight?

This light is supposed to run on Energizer AAA lithium L-92's. I didn't realize I would need to carry a pair of vise grips with me, if I wanted to use the L-92's.

All in all, this is a HUGE disappointment.

I give it 1 point out of 10, for the improved output.

I wonder if I can crimp an Arc-AAA into a 44 magnum case, with 25 grains or so of H-110 under it? Good thing I have a Thompson Contender (single shot, breech loading 'hand rifle') chambered in 44 magnum. It's a calming thought, given the far less than acceptable quality of this much anticipated, and expensive flashlight. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Now where is my can of H-110....? And I wonder how deep it will go into a pine tree?

Hmm....I better wrap it in duct tape, so as not to score the lands in the barrel of my Thompson Contender. A new barrel would cost...about as much a 4 more Arc-AAA Premiums. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yesss! I does fit in a 44 magnum case, with the duct tape, although I had to use a faster burning powder (Blue Dot) which doesn't fill the case completely full. Just have to wait until dark....! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't have a digital camera, but I'll take a picture of it, and when I finish the roll, I'll get a freind to scan the picture for me, and I'll post it.

I'd probably better drive out into the country for this; I don't think the neighbors will think it's a left-over 4th of July .....REALLY, REALLY BIG firecracker! I live right in the city. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
 
Wow, your complaining about your expensive flashlight, that you could easily return or exchange, but no. Instead you are going to let us all know that you are going to destroy this expensive light intentionally and waste $45. Makes perfect sence to me. Be sure to post pictures of the light, and your face when you realize the light still works...

TRC, I was OK with your post until I got about 2/3rds of the way down. Have you contacted Peter? Have you checked for lube on the thread and o-rings? Did you try a 2nd lithium cell? Are you sure you didn't cross-thread the bezel?
 
TRC, I am sorry. I know the light is not for everyone and sometimes we don't find this out until after that fact. Please let me help you resolve this issue constructively.

Please understand that we inspected that light before it was shipped to you. Besides my preference to believe first what I see in front of me versus what someone tells me, this is also supported by the experiences of others who have posted to this thread after seeing the lights in person.

Either the light is in fact defective, presumably because we just really screwed up on the inspection of that particular unit somehow or the light is as we presented here and your expectations were somewhere else. As I have said several times before, we try to avoid hype in our presentations because it can sometimes lead certain people to think the light is a miracle grail or something. Of course, nothing can live up to an unrealistic presentation or expectation.

So please, help me out here. I would like to know if this is something we can change. If not, then the change is all up to you my friend. By denying the process of improvement, you have no grounds to complain about the outcome.

Btw, I don't take kindly to people's abuse for the sake of sport or just because they had a bad day. Even though I am shop keeper and a craftsman, I am not your slave or whipping boy. I work for you and I can bring so much more energy to bear when we operate in an enviroment of mutual respect and communication. Yes, the customer is always right, but that is no excuse to treat me like a vending machine.

A third time; please let me help.

Wew, had me worried there. Nice video of the Arc-AAA actually. LowWorm rediscovered the "momentary on feature". It is a byproduct of the design actually. If you turn the light off partially and then press down on the head with your finger it will come on momentarily (ie, only for as long as you press it). Turning the head off a little more (more than 1 turn should do it) and you have a "lock out" feature. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We machine our own parts for the light using our own CNC lathe and mill. There is a small amount of play designed in the threads to make them more resistant to cross-threading, galling or binding when dirty. The momentary "feature" is an unexpected micro-bonus.

Just got home from the SF Giants/Reds game at SBC Park (which we won, yeah!) and there's a message on my answering machine with my neighbor telling me that Fedex left a package with them because I wasn't home and that she put it in my mailbox for me. Cool, I hadn't even recieved an email telling me it had shipped. I didn't even expect to get it until the end of next week and here it is already. What a nice surprise! Wow! this is the coolest little flashlight i've ever seen. I've never even seen an Arc AAA before and now I know what all the raves are about. This is what a Surefire would look like if they made a AAA light. Nice job Peter. Thanks!
 
Glad to see you and Arc back on your feet again Peter. I'll be sure to order one of these as soon as i can scratch together the cash. The comparison beamshots ive seen have been really impressive
