The last Gold Medalists for 10m Air Rifle were Ban Hyojin of South Korea (Women's) and Sheng Lihao of China (Men's)
Air Pistol gold went to Xie Yu of China for the Men's competition and Oh Ye-jin of South Korea for the Women's competition.

I used to hunt rabbits in a winter with a pellet gun, it was dead accurate at 30-40 yards, and powerful enough to come out the other side if large bones were not hit. would also use it for pest control, people in FL use pellet rifles all the time to take down iguanas, they are pests in FL. they are everywhere there, Last year I was there myself in Bonita spring, and those guys were hunting them down in the community. I talked to those guys, they told me it is like that in most Florida.
However, the op is talking about BB guns which are not that effective for things I mentioned above. they are much weaker, But they do not need to be effective, those are toys that teach kids about guns and responsibility, and if god forbid they accidentally shot themselves or someone, it will be minor injury, often without even breaking the skin. You really do not want a kid who never shot anything, has no experience, understanding physics of flying projectile, go buy their first firearm when they turn 18.
Unfortunately this exact experience is what freedom hating state gvmnt like ny and ca, va, and others, are trying to outlaw any and all guns, they want new generation grow up hating guns, and oppose everything about them. that is why they push this exact campaign, and want to reclassify bb gun, pellet, airsoft, paintball, which would effectively outlaw them without directly outlawing them. They make that exact argument, why do we need, it, what is the point..... they basically want your kid to grow up differently than you have. and use every resourcs from lawmakers to teachers union,

They have their use. Unfortunately they are limited to under 500 fps in Canukistan or you require a firearms license anyways. If also means high velocity air gun pistols can only used at a range with proper transportation documents. Now a low velocity pellet pistol is the only pistol many people will ever get a chance to shoot.
The rifles are good for training young shooters proper firearm handling techniques. They are also good for inexpensive plinking. You can also hunt small game at close range. Sometimes I do carry a 450fps pellet pistol to take sitting grouse while deer hunting. Again Canada's laws make their usefulness very limited. If you need a license for it anyways your almost better off getting yourself a good quality .22 rifle.

BB guns don't have any practical use beyond shooting at tin cans, but pellet guns are great for legit target and hunting. Lack of accuracy is the biggest reason but BB guns can also be dangerous the way the steel ball ricochets.

When I was a kid I had bb pistols, once tried to shoot a mouse that was running along the baseboard,. well the mouse did not get hit, it was a fast little dude, but telephone cable, antenna cable, and an outlet did, lol. that is how I learned how to properly splice wires, and replace outlets.
If I was a kid today, I would not get a steel BB, I'd go for airsoft, so much cooler guns, identical to real, some even made using half the real parts, shoots full auto, and even less likely to hurt, or injure. I go airsoft about once a month, that experience is so much better than you could ever get with a BB. especially when you use plastic bb that glow in uv and have a uv light that is mounted with woods glass, it looks so cool, in the dark. it really looks like traces, there are also bbs that glow in the dark. and those plastc balls are pretty accurate. So in a way, 4.5mm steel bbs are outdated, 6mm airsoft guns are new bb guns, and they are much better.

Pretty sure it was or a pump i also recall when it rained cane frogs came out seemed like they was everywhere so we shot them i felt bad but dang dog would try to eat them so wecwanted to get rid of them.he wasca dumb dog never learned not to try to kill them and eat them
There is a legitimate use for BB guns. My mother's cousin ran after her shooting her in the behind with his BB gun.

I've never held nor fired a BB gun. when I think about the physics, the lack of chemical combustion, and a spherical projectile, I'm guessing a BB gun probably has 1/1000th of the force of a proper gun. Take something like a .44 Magnum and that's probably closer to 20,000% stronger. Which then my mind wanders to what the utility of such a device would be.
The first weapon ever put in my hands was a .44 Magnum revolver. I was warned about the kick-back before taking my first shot. However, the amount of kick-back that weapon has, especially when you are young, imprints just how serious guns are and how they need to be treated with respect.

I'm not a huge gun fan myself. I have them, am trained, recertify each year, but I prefer to hire people to handle it for me, with my training and own weapons being a last resort. I have friends and associates who are much more interested in them than I am. That said, Florida is a strong Castle Doctrine state. The alarms on my homes are silent, for a reason.
Same feelings here regarding guns, although I don't currently own any firearms (NYC restrictions are ridiculous, even for a weapon you intend to keep only for home defense), and have never shot one. That said I have hidden a number of edged weapons in the house in places only I can find them should an intruder break in. Not as good as a gun but better than not having any plan. My neighborhood is pretty good anyway. Armed robberies are rare, although there are break-ins when people are not home. Since I don't have any kind of predictable schedule I'm less of a target for this type of theft.

The legitimate use is that people like to use them. Whether it's to practice drawing and firing, sports, for fun, or anything else legal and non-violent that they choose to do.
The trap in the question of "what use is x" lies in that x usually was invented for some reason. If i ask what the use is for a 13,000 lumen 12V monster i've already put myself in the situation where i'm working from the object and not the use. If i instead ask myself where it'd come in handy i could possibly think up more scenarios for it, if i've got other experience with either renovations, rescue, or farmwork there's all of a sudden a lot more that comes to mind.
Keep in mind, every day there's someone asking what use a flashlight is when they have a flashlight on their phone, what use a gun is if you don't plan on using it someone, or what use the hitch on a car is if you aren't constantly using trailers.
