To the OP - why doesn't the E01 feel all that durable to you?

Opinions about the E01 aside, you might be looking for something specific in terms of design - weight, for example.

However, as others have said, the E01 is almost notorious for the amount of abuse it can take.
 
The most "solid" buildt aaa light i have seen is the Lenselight micro. Its so beefed up it looks like a AA light. Double o-rings, potted etc.

But dont messure the durability by the thickness of the tube. It's the fragile electronics inside that always fails, rarely the tube itself :)
 
Peak Eigers are probably the most durable aaa out there. The titanium McGizmo Sapphire is probably up there too, together with the old arc aaa. The maratac and the beta must also be considered. Thrunite, Fenix, Olight etc. are in a league below.

Well I'm not sure that's the case. I haven't seen the Sapphire or the Eigers and such torture tested like we've seen the Fenix and it's budget brothers. Maybe someone has done a test and I have missed it. But until I see someone throwing an Eiger, Sapphire, Mako or whatever off a 5 story balcony, or repeatedly throwing it against a brick wall and all that fun stuff, my money is with the $10 E01 that is near indestructible.
 
I think that most of us would hesitate to throw our more expensive lights against a brick wall.

That being said, I would trust a Stainless steel Peak Eiger, or even more so, a Matterhorn to hold up to this abuse.

I have not had the pleasure of a Sapphire or Mako, so I cannot speak to the robust nature of those.

exactly! We KNOW how tough an E01 is and kind of hope/guess that some other more expensive lights are just as bullet proof.
 
For over a year I've been carrying/edcing in my right pocket at work or at home the Eagletac D25AAA, a twisty, and I've found it quite durable. For four weeks, though, I've also been edcing the Lumintop Tool, a clicky, a very rugged light.

I love all of my AAA lights listed above and think they are solid, as I said in the OP. My question is which AAA lights do YOU think are the most durable?

The e01 is durable, I have owed and carried a few of them (5 or 6) for a number of years now, and not one failure. After watching the torture tests, I think the e01 may be as tough as my HDS. For the record, I love my e01's...

I've carried the ARC for 6+ years on my key chain every day. The first one stopped working after a few years, I assume the bulb burned out. I sent it in and they sent me a new one no questions asked. It gets dropped on concrete at least once a week and just keeps going. I can't even remember the last time I replaced the battery.
 
For the record Fenix E01 is NOT potted. Fenix would not know what potted is in a flashlight.
Copied Arc AAA design. The only reason is reliable is because it has a design based on Arc AAA.

You will not ever see my sapphire or Eigers torture tested. They just work, always. Good enough for me. Again, in my opinion, the potted and fully water tight Eiger is the most durable light I have held in my hand. Also, I love the fact that such a durable light will emit a lot of light + you can choose between mule and optic + QTC. BTW I consider the sapphire as jewelry :)
 
I'd be willing to put a few dollars towards the purchase of an Eiger and/or Arc for Run4jc to test. I'm sure the many curious AAA light enthusiasts would do the same.

Any takers? We can check with him and maybe just PP a few bucks each.
 
E01 unless the OP is looking for more lumens et etc but then again AAA isn't ideal for long sustained very high output.
 
I can only speak for myself, but I've always remarked at the sturdiness of my Olight i3 EOS.
 
Many people put their AAA lights on a key ring. All my main key-rings have electronic fobs on them to control locks etc. I don't know what you guys put your lights through on a regular basis but for me, I want the fob to continue to work so throwing or submerging them is out of the question.

That being said, I have watched the various torture tests that the Thrunite Ti3 have been submitted to (shot out of shot gun, frozen, ran over by truck, submerged etc) and I am pretty confident that whatever abuse I put my light through is far less than the tests the light survived in the torture test. I buy for overkill to a certain extend, but it isn't the end objective. For my uses the firefly, 12L and 120L are exactly what I need and wouldn't trade it for bombproof 1 function, especially given the near same price in my location.

You're making a great point here and the one AAA light that has stolen my attention away from my E01 the most is my Ti3.
 
The thing that bothers me the most when you guys talk about putting these 'larger' flashlights on your keychain is not damage to the light, it is damage to the ignition switch. My wife, as administrator of the Preschool she taught at, had a lot of keys on her keychain, probably a dozen or so, plus the car fob. On a Christmas trip from Cincinnati to western Iowa, on a very cold night, we discovered that the heater fan no longer worked. There was still some heat being circulated due to the flow-through ventilation, but not enough. Needless to say, with two small kids in the back seat we were concerned. Luckily, we also found out the cause and cure for the problem later that same night. Apparently, the weight of the keychain wore down the internals of the ignition switch far enough that when one let go of the keys after starting the car, the switch would not return all the way to the 'Run' position. Some things would receive power, but some wouldn't. After that we made two key rings, and made a conscious effort to make sure the switch was all the way back to 'Run' every time. Just something to think about when you start loading your key ring with all sorts of other things.
