Eneloop AAA Disappointment

Ok, I bought the white Eneloop (1500 recharge cycles) in both AA and AAA-- I'm pleased with the former but not the latter.

Three times I used different AAA Eneloops in my $20. Lumintop Tool and each time the AAA Eneloop expired rather fast. Is there something I'm not getting here?

I've gone back to using an Alkaline in the Tool because it's more reliable, trustworthy. I need an Eneloop I can trust if I lose power. (For the record, I keep a spare AAA battery on me along with other EDC lights.)

If I buy the Eneloop Pro, will I see a different result?

The eneloops should deliver more Amps, so it should run brighter. This mean less runtime compared with a alkaline that wont deliver that mutch Amps.

Absolutely. Ohms Law!
Alkalines have higher internal resistance, which rises as the battery runs down. Matter of fact, I read somewhere that it is that internal resistance which is the main reason an alkaline battery runs down. I believe Eneloop technology has some of the characteristics of alkaline (long storage life), as well as the low internal resistance of the NiCd and NiMh.
 
it's a high current driver. runtime official spec is around 3omins or so

That's probably it. I use AAA 'loops in my Streamlight Microstream and Stylus Pro, as well as in my pocket Radio Shack radio (12-587). They give nice run times in all these applications.
 
My eneloop pros perform per the 30 min on High listed in the Specs, my light is the Copper Tool with the Nichia. My regular eneloop AAAs perform similarly with a slightly smaller capacity.
Personally I see a light like this as being primary for use on Med, high is a burst mode for me due to the terrible runtime compared to a Maratac AAA.
