I am not a 4000K fan at all, but the NB40 is really great. I even favor NB40 over NB45. I am sure you will not be disappointed.
Questions from a new HDS convert, respectfully of course…

Given your obvious experience with emitters, what’s your quarrel with 4000K?

Can you help me better understand your dislike of 4000K but two thumbs up rating of the NB40?

At first for me it is a difference between "not like at all" and "hate". Only to make this clear. I am not english native speaker. I also own some 4000K lights, and I use them also.

I guess the first point is 4000K depends on the LED, 4000K may be yellowish. The HDS XP-L 4000K is kind of yellowish, also the SS40 that HDS had is a bit more on the yellow side in compare to NB40.

I did long time ago an emitter compare (unfortunately 219B 9080 was not included since it was not even existing in the HDS world). The original posting is in the legendary Hogo "Low K group buy" (picture is from 2018).

in this picture you see different tints of 4000K lights. Seems I like 4000K more with a higher part of red light in it. The NB40 has this.
Also there are some people that love NB4 (219B 9050 4000K) but I unfortunately do not own a NB4. Therefore I can not judge NB4 vs. NB40.

Also the beam itself is very homogeneous in color. The inner and outer beam is more or less the same. That is somehow interesting for me if I am doing some photography stuff with some spot illumination. Sometimes for such tasks beams with different light colors are a problem. The biggest problem is if you later shift the color calibration. You may know photography is my 2nd hobby.

If the NB27 arrived I hope I will find the time on doing my big 2022 HDS LED color compare. Maybe that helps to understand it more ... ???

Still some 18350 tubes available.
My ability to resist failed. I have two 18350 tubes on the way one with NB35 and one with NB27.
I guess that helped settle the "Which LED should I get" debate. I just got them all :ROFLMAO:
 
So, I succumbed and have a new light coming too. I really just wanted the 18350 body but was willing to spend the $ for a new head to play with. Yes, I see the Jr high giggles, but I am pleased to evaluate a new LED choice....... Even if a bit "forced". Heck, I am considering another 18350 light...... as that is my now preferred battery.
 
Gave up one ever getting one with the 18350 tube, so ordered a new HDS with the 18650 tube instead. Then the 18350 option shows up. Spent a couple of days telling myself I didn’t need another HDS and that having one with the 18650 tube means I really don’t need the 18350. Then yesterday I ordered a new HDS with the 18350 tube. My better half is threatening to take away my debit card. Lol

Tell your other half it’s ok. I bought your TCR-1 and it’s covered 2/3 of the 18350. 😂
 
I've had the good fortune to happen upon three very cool rotary's on the secondary market, each coming with varying info on the actual emitter it contains.

I can determine the lumens for each based on the colored ring, but does anyone happen to have the original emitter info for the following three heads?

#1 The "50" leads me to think it's a Nichia 219C 5000°K. AKA the 3 O'clock High.

#3 As far as I know, the only 140 lumen Nichia HDS was 219A @ 4500°K. Some of these were the first run of HDS with a Nichia, and later (after the 219B), some of these were discounted lights sold at clearance prices.

Both lights were considered High CRI.

Any way to determine additional characteristics like tint/°K, CRI, etc. for the other two?
Most likely it is the same as the standard one, but I can't be sure, sometimes the writing on the board is quite illegible, at one time I assumed that nanometers of green and red colors were written there, lol

The writing on the Cree board looks like a bin/flux code. My guess is R2 flux bin and kit 51 bin 1D chromaticity (6200K on the black body locus).

Hey so on my new 325 NLT rotary, my double click flash and triple click strobe aren’t working. Is this something where they are off by default?
