Just got this clicky. Very fast and fluent from the Italian dealer. No customs issue at all.

But have some observations:
1. SN quite bigger than my rotary, but no candle mode. So bigger SN does imply later release from HDS?

2. The black finish is very poor compared to my rotary's. Dull and not smooth, and you can see most ends of the lines have white points.

With this as comparison, I am quite confident my rotary will not have problem with the black finish, which us of very good quality. But I am quite suspicious with this clicky.

May I ask what colour is the "HDS Systems" and serial number in the back bezels? To me it seems different than the colour in the silver bezels.

I recall reading that the SN is randomly chosen and there is no internal list or relationship to the date of production.

Thanks for the Osram 660 mod pics Bansuri! Seems to be perfect as a mule.

I wonder if there is an easy fix solution for a short bezel with an integrated lens, so the light can be used as a mule while still being able to protect the led and circuit board and to keep the IP rating of the light. The original bezel is too high and obstructs the all out floodiness of a naked led, so even if it's doable to fix the lens in the original bezel sans the reflector it's not an ideal solution.

The thought has struck me when trying my 170N rotary as a mule, and when I see Bansuri's pics I'm sure I will want to "mulify" my incoming Hyper Red special edition rotary.

Maybe HDS could offer a dedicated mule bezel with an integrated lens for those that prefer a mule configuration for their HDS lights?

I had an email conversation awhile back with Henry about mule options. Sadly, I don't think it's going to happen.

For those of you getting the hyper red model, are you getting clicky or rotary? I need to make a decision, and I'm torn which I should pick. I wonder if one would be more useful for its particular use case.

It's an even split with a Tactical thrown in. I'm very much a Rotary guy. I just couldn't move back to a clicky once the rotary lights came out. Far too convenient.

I ordered one of the original 250LE's (No ramping model) just before the vendor issues.
I got something similar to yours. Tiny spots in the knurling that were missing anno.
My battery tube and tailcap were a few shades lighter than the light itself.

Since you said no candle mode, I'm assuming it's old stock.

I'm sure that with the new vendor and the "price increase" to preserve quality, there should be no issues like that
on the lights that are being made now.

Forgive me for drifting from the recent programming topics, but my Rotary XPG2 Flush cap just arrived and it's pretty much as Sean described it. Very clean, white and pleasant tint. In fact, I like both the tints very much - the 219 and the XPG2. I took a horrible, out of hand, quick iPhone photo of the 2 side by side:

...

Now call me weird, but I like the slightly 'fuzzy' focus of the 219. For around the house use it softens it up a bit...outside, too. And I think that the XPG2 may get more use than i expected. My intent was to compare and decide which of the 2 I would keep and which I would sell, but now I'm thinking that I may keep both.

Oy -the life of a flashaholic.

It's not weird at all, everybody has their own preferences about beam shape but I'm confident Henry will find a good balance between spot and flood.

Clicky for me.
Better functionality for my use and no moving parts may mean less chance of dirt and water getting in or failure point.

Rotary here. I very much like my new Tactical 170N, but for this light I see no real need for guaranteed momentary or strobe. For all my potential hyper red light use cases, I want to always be able to dial directly to the brightness I want before it turns on. I can see the arguments for classic clicky, but rotary is the interface that makes sense for me.

Feel free to correct me if wrong, but to date I don't think anyone has ever reported a HDS rotary breaking or binding up due to real world use. Durability discussions seem to have been theoretical rather than pragmatic. However, I haven't read all 16 prior threads...

Nope you are correct. Many have speculated over the Rotary's ability to stand up to abuse, to keep out water, to function in dirty or dusty environments... but I have not read of any real issues with it's durability. Someone had a problem a few pages back but the thought was it might have been a damaged battery, I don't think it was ever confirmed the Rotary had suffered damage.

I'm speculating about the rotary. Surely it's tough but it couldn't be better sealed than the clicky.
Either way I prefer a clicky's functionality and control via button presses rather than dial. I know what brightness it'll come on in because I use the mode memory feature, I'll also be using momentary a lot so that'll be enabled too.
My light will mainly be used for work so it'll get dirty and wet a lot.

Whatever works for you really.
My 170n clicky is my EDC so it doesn't see hard use, my incoming Hyper Red will however and in no doubt very different environments and usage types to where and how you may use yours.

Regarding the Hyper Red edition I'd be interested to know how people will use their lights if they feel like sharing.
The only info I've seen so far is from Moonshadow for astronomy.
Let us know how and what you will use your Hyper Red for whether it be hobby, work or just for fun.
Mine will be used for work, Army. It'll also get some EDC time for play outside of work.
I'll definitely be using the diffusion film that Hogo will so nicely include after the great post from Bansuri.
Cheers

A little time Rotary modding tonight. I wish I had taken pictures but there is a post somewhere where someone shows the same thing.

I was bothered by how easy it was to twist the Tailcap on my new Rotary so I decided to take care of that. I managed to get the small wire out with some tiny tweezers - took about 5 minutes of fiddling till I could catch the end. Then it just slid right out. Very simple yet effective method for holding the tailcap on

I removed the tailcap and cleaned out all the lube on the back of the light, the two o-rings in side the tailcap and the tailcap itself. I think re-greased everything with some #1500 Helical grease. (The same grease I've used on the V10R Ti's for anyone that's gotten a mod or the CPF2013 lights from me) Put it back together, slipped in the wire and I am good to go. The Rotary won't move at all from a little nudge because of the stickiness of the helical grease and it has just the right tension (for me).

Hey guys,

Just wanted to give a shout out to Hogo. Got my Rotary from him this week and also leather goods... I love the black wallet, holster and Rotary together. Great set!

I was looking for more leather ideas tonight and noticed on Thor's (Hogo's) webstore that there are some 219A Clickies on a great price!

Not sure if I am allowed to link here, but I can beg for forgiveness later. Link

It was a hard decision, but I went with a clicky.

Nice leather eala! Guess those 219a's went quick? Out of stock
Another ?: is it possible to get grit(sand) out of a rotary? I can't stand that feeling/sound.
