Yeah I don't know how much snow clearing I have left in me. Buying a snow blower last year was a great investment.

When the price of snowblowers quadruples overnight....
It does look that way. It's turned to sleet here with rain behind it. LOTS of cars in ditches.
I assume this is a big shopping day but I bet online ordering is putting a big dent in local sales.

Well, darned if I didn't speak too soon. Was wistfully watching the last of our ~60 degree days disappearing, just this past week. But had to actually say it.
And, wouldn't you know?, "Murphy" was listening. (We all know who "Murphy" is. He's the "bad messenger" for Mother Nature and all that lot.) Dared all the gods to not be listening, and who was right there listening? Murphy.
And now it looks like it will be in the 20s-30s for the next week at least. Just had to open my big mouth, didn't I. Yup.
Lesson: Mouth meet Foot.

^You're expected to see higher than normal levels this year. Probably hit with storms later?

Winter Weather Advisory for here. Snow beginning about midnight through 6 p.m. Monday. Accumulations 1-4 inches. Lovely. Oh well, at least it held off until after Thanksgiving. It's time. By sunset tomorrow:
Mild rain. They predicted flooding rainfall for today.
I don't mind rain around here. We could always use some. I for sure don't like it when it downpours. No one knows how to drive in it and everything floods too easily. When storms or prolonged rains come, flooding, mudslides and washouts happen.
What I really miss is a good thunder storm. Don't get those around here very often. I would sit on the porch or in the barn and just watch it rain and flash. Then count the seconds until the thunder to see if the storm was getting closer or moving away.

For powder, a leafblower works great. For any snow, a long tarp or tough blanket (or a series of them) works great. Lay it down, let it snow, drag and flip it somewhere, then put it back to grab more snow.

You have a beautiful house. Since it's THAT much snow, yeahhhh....maybe a series of smaller tarps that overlap, if your back can handle it. Just roll them one at a time in a general direction...but your snowblower would definitely save your back, lol

Yeah, loading 40' container trailers for 5 years at UPS ('75-'80) sure didn't help my back!
But VOILA! less than 3 mos. later...
Snowfall in January '24 was unusually heavy. Not as bad this year.

I'm proud to say that I've never once raked leaves or shoveled snow. There's no need for it down here.
Now, shoveling sand out of a place after a hurricane storm surge, yes, once out of all the years I've been alive. One time of having to do that vs. dealing with leaves and snow every year? Sounds like a good trade for me.

Back when I was working in NYC for a client, invariably I'd get stuck in NYC in February for the blizzard. Every..single...year. The timing was impeccable. In my experience, at least for The City, take whatever the blowhards on TV are saying and divide it by 3 to get the actual snowfall I'd see there.
Folks who don't live here tend to be surprised just how brutal NYC Summers and Winters can be. Made worse by the fact that the other two seasons usually stop by for about 2 weeks each out of the year.
Edit ~ Thankfully since Late 2002 I haven't had to shovel snow too often. Garaged parking spot I share with just over 40 neighbors. The maintenance crew takes care of shoveling the driveway. The City takes care of shoveling the street. Though my 3rd Shift job becomes a headache when it snows during my shift. Park right next to the Exit gate. Grab one of the large snow-shovels from one of the Maintenance rooms at the end of my shift. Grab the Winter coat that lives in the trunk of my car (gloves, Watch cap, and scarf in the pockets). Take care of business. I do have a compact, collapsible snow-shovel in the trunk of my car. But why use it if I can use a better one? I hate shoveling snow.

We've actually had no measurable snow so far. High 40's and low 50's & rain in the forecast but no snow for the next 10 days.
The other side to that coin is no one seems to know how to do HVAC in NYC. I've both sweated and froze my posterior off up there. Heating/cooling is either totally overkill or practically non-existent. And forget controls. Those are merely wall decorations. The HVAC equipment will do whatever it wants.
The drafty buildings don't seem to help either. I've even encountered these problems in buildings built as recently as 2005, wherein substantial amounts of cold air were blowing in through underneath the windowsills into the hotel room.
