"Best" one so far was Boint Bun at Benis.

Family friendly way of saying it.
Yes, an actual challenge in which dudes would take a loaded pistol, point it at their junk (at point blank), and just give the trigger a couple of quick pulls. Yes, there were a few dudes who miscalculated how hard to squeeze the trigger. And, they actually did use loaded pistols! You can guess what happened next. Unfortunately for them, they survived. I don't think anything is going to top that trend. And, yes; a few young women complained that this challenge was sexist, and they couldn't participate.

Have a NOCO GXB45 starter unit, myself. Works quite well.

Don't have a battery tender. Have considered one, but haven't decided to do it yet.

On my own vehicle, installation of the block heater requires draining of the coolant and removal of several parts, to get it installed properly. A few hours' of effort, more or less. Might consider doing this, during the Summer months. Though, in my own area there are precious few places that offer a "block heater" plug (at shops, businesses). Still, it's a nice feature to have.

Have a few little jobs to get done first, though -- re-doing the seals and the aging power window regulator for the driver's side door; installing a few new parts on the suspension, to replace aging components; drain/refill of the fluids for the transmission and differential. Standard maintenance, basically.
 
@PaladinNO Believe it or not, I've encountered a no-start situation with a diesel before, in Florida. We don't get the winter blend fuel here and temperatures dropped below freezing for a few hours.

Also, interesting to see that CTEK charger! They don't have those here. One of my cars came with a CTEK from the factory. Kind of crappy design, really. I wish they would have come up with a better battery management system on the car than expect us to plug it in when not using it.
 
Poweroutage.us is a favourite site of mine, especially with the hurricanes.

I'm surprised to see Texas doing as well with this storm as they have.

...and to think that politicians want people to go all-electric... nuts.

I had forgotten about that time - in that case, I have needed to have my car towed 3 times due to the cold. There was a period when I wasn't using my car, so I still had the summer blend in the tank during winter - and the car stalled out on my way to the garage to have it serviced.

As for the battery charger, I was surprised to see you don't have that Polar model available at all. I can recommend connecting a charger regardless when the car is just sitting there though. It counters any electrical faults, like a partial connection to ground (which will drain the battery over time).

I have such a fault on my car, and it's verified to be somewhere on the factory harness (and not on any of the auxiliary lights or other extras I have on my car). If I leave my car for a week, it's okay - 2 weeks, in the winter, and it's...ehh, maybe it will start.

Just got a new battery though, as my old one had been completely drained at least 3 times for various reasons. And I can hear the engine start so much faster now, no hesitation.

Aftermath of the storm here in NYC. From my 6th floor window, I can see a thick covering of White on all the side streets. Cars buried not too badly, but still.... Called out from work. The co-worker, my elderly on-site supervisor who hates that title got stuck when his relief called out 8 hours earlier. I felt bad calling out too, but no choice.

During one Winter storm several years back, I tried driving to work. Had no clue that the roads were closed. Turned around, came back home when my car slid badly! Could have been seriously hurt, and could have totaled my car. I learned my lesson that day. Ironically, my on-site supervisor who was stuck at work was extremely understanding. He knows I'd be there if it wasn't for the weather. My Manager whom I also contacted likewise was very understanding. Only my other supervisor wasn't. Actually tried at first to guilt-trip me into coming in. I politely asked him if he had looked out the window in the last few hours. Put an end to his nonsense, immediately.

Thing is, if you call out and your supervisor can't find a relief to take your place, THEY have to come in themselves. Company policy that all of them must follow. In reality, NONE of them do! For a couple of years we had a young man who got promoted to Supervisor. He followed that policy. But beeched, moaned, and complained about it constantly to me every time I saw him because during one of my personal days that I made clear was due to taking vacation time, he had to come in for the guy they had gotten to cover my shift for that week. Glad the storm is over. Seriously, two years ago we had one snow storm all Winter. It wasn't too severe. I miss that Winter.

Currently a Shorts & Tank-top 21-degrees F. in NYC.

If you bathe the whole state in EM fields and microwaves, you could melt the snow simply by directionally amplifying those waves! (Along with all the constituents, I guess...)

I am so glad I live in a COOP apartment with a sizeable Maintenance crew.
I know all the snow will be cleared out by the time I have to head in to work.

I'm not sure if most people know that MRI machines have pretty powerful radio transmitters inside of them. a 3T MRI uses a 30kW(!) transmitter. Raw power, not Effective Radiated Power like a "30kW" radio station is, which factors in antenna gain.

If you've ever been in an MRI machine, you'll know they have a fan blowing on you during the scan, and it's there for a reason: They literally are 'microwaving' you with RF. Lower frequency ranges, but same principle. Off the top of my head, <1T MRI machines usually use 16MHz, 1.5T use 64MHz, 3T use 128 MHz. Microwave ovens use 2500MHz.
