i owe so much to them being learning disabled i didnt go far in school id say 95 percent of americans went more far then me. i just didnt know what the teachers was talking about .had a hard time making a living to someone gave me there old computer i learned to fix it then how to build them and etc etc they just was so simple to mei love them . its crazy how much they changed .
 
I love'um till I gotta buy one, e.g. Windows 10 is ending, my laptop isn't compatible (Window's did a check, and showed I can't install/use Windows 11 in my laptop).

I got two months to buy another laptop. Bummers. Oh well. .. :(

You can still use it. You just won't have any updates/support from MS. I'd at least wait until the holidays when everything goes on sale and get one then.

I did consider waiting, but, not certain if I want to take a gamble on the tariffs. As well as not having MS support is a worry. Been doing some shopping, and found a few Laptops that will work within my budget.

Thanks for the heads up. Funny thing is, my first two computers were Mac's. I drifted to MS when I pick up my first laptop. I guess, I'm one of thoughs who have a hard time switching. I'm presently on a Toshiba., but I'm looking at an ASUS. Had one before, and it work out well.

I don't have cable or any streaming services, but I have to have internet

I'm a dork, so I look at lithography in nm when buying, thinner is better if no 'leakage'

Still own an overclocked (by myself) desktop from '05 or '06 🌟
Currently use a Legion Pro laptop, think my cpu is 5 or 6nm and my gpu is 8nm . M2 drive . low latency ram

add: Use AMD and NVIDIA
Got my Legion Pro for like $1000 or $1100, I understand that isn't cheap (at first thought it was a typo, in a good way)
but for other brands using same chips/processors, could have spend MUCH more.

What annoys me so much is when people compare a phone to a regular computer, saying a phone basically is a computer now.
And I'm like "Really? It sure cost as much as a laptop, so that must mean I can connect my keyboard to it! And a second screen! What? I can't do that? Oh, so it's not a computer then." And if someone take that in stride, I add "Can I at least plug in my 3,5mm minijack headphone?". That is pretty much sure to get them these days. ^^

Honestly, I feel uncomfortable being in social settings. I feel I get much more along with computers, so that is why I work in IT as the hardware guy at a local school.
I like building my own PCs, as I have yet to see a single prebuilt letting me choose all the components I want (at a reasonable price). And I actually even like troubleshooting them (I think I have allergies against a non-working PC) - I prefer finding the root cause instead of just format Windows and call it a day (time is of course a factor).

And unlike women, the computer won't get mad when you upgrade.

My first laptop was an Asus N73Jn from 2009. I didn't even start it before I upgraded the HDD in it to a faster and larger HDD (then later to an SSD).
Since I bought it, I have upgraded the OS, system drive, added a second drive, installed more RAM, and put in a better WiFi-card.

I still have a better CPU-chip for it in a box somewhere. On paper, it should work, but I never got around to it because I could not figure out how to separate the bezels.
Asus support said I had done everything currectly, by removing the 9 required screws, but the thing was just as stuck. And Support insisted my model was not glued anywhere (yet they would not give me the service manual...because they said it didn't exist).

It was retired in 2020 for a new Asus, a TUF A17 FX706IU (I really needed a better CPU in my laptop by now). Where I have also installed a second (and third) storage drive, and installed more RAM.

Technically a phone is a computer but the comparison ends there. A PC is an upgradeable device which offers a far superior user experience to a phone. A phone is good in that you can surf the Internet while, say, riding the train but given a choice I'd rather have a real keyboard and a nice big screen. I just don't see the joy of looking at things on a 7" screen.

Same here. In fact, when I first got a computer, and later went online, my thoughts were I must have been born about 2 or 3 decades too early (or maybe 2 or 3 centuries if you ask some of my family members). I socialized far more online than I ever could in person. Interacting with people via screens and keyboards was far more comfortable. And I did eventually meet some of the people I met online in person.

That reminded me of the famous line about a guy trading in his 40 year old wife for two 20 year olds.

You can buy one year of extended support for Windows 10 from Microsoft for $30.

Unless your software requirements specifically tie you to the Microsoft stuff, or other similar needs for certain Windows-only software, now might be a great time to seriously consider going over to an Ubuntu (Linux) setup on that box. While it isn't Win11 compatible (due to chips), it's almost certainly capable of running Ubuntu or one of the other Linux operating systems. Various browsers and anti-virus also have Ubuntu or Linux versions. Instead of MS Office there is LibreOffice (and others), for general writing/spreadsheet/presentation apps.

Choices, choices ... eh?

I've got an older box, too. It's perfectly serviceable and runs great, so I'm seriously considering Ubuntu for it. Just haven't gotten 'round to it yet.

In five years, you'll still be able to use your Win 10 machine,,, probably alot longer.

Wish I could get a fresh copy of Win 10___ 11 sucks, sooo much sh!t I can't uninstall:mad:
 
I agree that Windows 11 sux balls. WAY too much AI that can't be turned off completely or deleted. I'm not against computers 'helping' me ...when I want and how I want the help.

For decades, I've had to go thru' every clean install and turn things off/on to make it more secure and actually predictably useful.
 
I hate microsoft so many dang updates. Macs cost more but well worth it them m chips rock.mine is fast as most intel chips yet has no fans
 
If i had to choose a laptop today it will be the asus zenbook with the snapdragon x plus super light oled screen battery life best out there not for gaming its on sale for 599 .or the macbook air m4 for sale 799 id prefere the mac better gpu no fan no microsoft lol
