I'm in the market for a new light and there are just too many options. What I'm looking for is this: A single cell 18650 light with decent lumens and a intuitive UI. The one thing I have learned I don't like in a UI are the ones where you have to make multiple half presses of the tail switch to select your output mode then click it on. I can never seem to get those to work right for me and I always seem to turn on the strobe by mistake.
Thus far I'm looking at the Fenix TK15UE and the PD35TAC, mostly because I'm familiar with Fenix and really like their lights. I'm not opposed to branching out brands and I welcome any all feedback either on those lights or something similar. And most importantly, let me know why you choose what you do. :twothumbs
 
Thanks, glad to be here! Budget is flexible, maybe not in the multi hundred dollar Surefire category, but I don't mind paying for quality. Anything under $200 would be just fine by me. =)
 
Eagletac has a lot of options with single click on then twisty ui that is super simple.
 
Thanks, I'll check them out. What are your thoughts on the Surefire P1R? It only breaks the budget by a little... Is the quality vs lesser output worth it? It seems like a decent option, but I don't know if it would be the best bang for the buck.
 
I have a P1R and it is probably my favorite current production SF. In that budget zone, I would suggest also looking at Elzetta, Malkoff Devices and HDS 18650 Rotary. I would personally prefer a lower output and better build quality. But that is me. The lights I mentioned are basically lifetime lights. They are that good.
Also when you look around, you may notice some lights run two cr123s and don't fit a 18650. Some will run fine on a 16650 cell.
end of the day, the HDS would likely be the only light you will ever need.
 
Those HDS lights look fantastic! I like the option to custom build one to accept an 18650 cell, but man does that get pricey. Now to go sweet talk the wifey... :huh:
 
One last question (isn't there always one last question?) : If one has the option of a 250 lumen, 350 lumen wide beam or 200 lumen high cri led, which to choose? I'm leaning toward the high cri. I have more powerful lights if I need that, so I'm thinking a lower power better one would be good for EDC.
 
I have a hi cri rotary and 200 is adequate for most edc uses for me. The beam is great and so is the tint. I don't think you will regret that configuration.
 
+1 on the hi cri. Tell your wife, if you don't like the light, it is super easy to sell with very little loss.
Keep in mind, it is a custom set up. Sometimes it takes a few days to get it. It isn't like Fenix & Amazon where they have 100's in stock and 2 day shipping. lol
 
Amazingly she signed off on it! Somewhere in the production line is my new rotary hi cri 18650 beast of a light. Now for the hard part, the wait :sigh:

Outstanding! Mine is my favorite! And, yes, this is a great group to belong to. I have learned a great deal in the few months that I've been here. Although I'm on fighting terms with my wallet. LOL!
