As the title suggests, I’m looking for a rechargeable battery for this light. The flashlight is an older one and few were made. It has some history here for some older members that probably remember it.

I live in the USA and could use the members here help in finding what and where to purchase a rechargeable battery for this light. I already have a suitable charger, so that should be fine.

Any help is much appreciated.

Definitely the right size, but $25 shipping for six batteries is a bit steep. I guess what I wonder is if 700ma is ok? Are flat tops needed? Are protected cells needed? Is that a legit site? It’s so hard to tell anymore and my usual places like Illumn, Malkoff, don’t carry that size.

It’s a custom rare light that’s 20 years old. This is it below and why I’m being cautious.

Roger that. I'd be a little cautious w/ a light like that, and would want to get it right. Someone around here can probably help you nail this down.

I can only answer one question. Yes, that's definitely a legit site, I've purchased 2 fairly pricey chargers from them in the past couple of years, and they did things right on both orders.

Someone's bound to know more than I do, which is nothing;-)

Thank you for verifying the legitimacy of the site. I may have to order and try the above if I can’t find an alternative. I didn’t even see that site, so I appreciate that. Hopefully one of the other owners of this beautiful light has purchased some replacement cells and can advise what/where they got their cells, but that may be wishful thinking.

There are a few of the OG’s still active, but not many. They have forgotten more than I will ever know which is not much either. :)

Wow. I’ve been back for a few hours and I can actually help you out. That light never did do anything ridiculously stupid as far as consumption and………

You can get 14430 at Lowe’s in the landscaping section. The are lifepo4 so not much to worry about with them and I think they are only 400mah but it will save you a lot of time and trouble. Should fit and if not you can return them to Lowe’s.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. is it these 3.2v that you’re suggesting?

Any chance we could see a picture (or 2, or 3, or more), of said light, or is it super-secret and not able to be shown?

In your OP, you stated "for this light", however provided NO picture, or description of said light

The link to thread was nice, but I was unable to see any pictures (or anything from the thread that required "clicking" on) that actually SHOW the light

Thanks!

If it is the flashlight I think OP is referencing here, there are more photos in this thread (including its intended battery) ...

Those were very early custom CPF collaboration flashlights, made in extremely limited numbers.

Less than a dozen total, I believe.

The light is shown here. I just purchased from a fellow CPF member, so I should have in hand by the end of the week. I’m planning ahead as usual. I didn’t know anything about it at all until I saw it for sale from him. It’s mentioned here 20 years ago stating “700mah battery”?

Don from McGizmo has it on his site also:

Thanks for the link archimedes. Interestingly enough I’ve noticed some are a more silver color and some seem to be a darker charcoal color. Perhaps it’s just the photo and light exposure that’s different.

Certainly, cheers.

I'm not sure specifically for this model, but some of these makers from that era did vary the materials used over the course of their ultra-limited handmade runs.

Nice!

Thank you for that info!

It appears the original makers used the li-ion cells from camera batteries. Specifically the Canon Nb2l and Nikon ENEL1 and pulled the 14430 cells out. I presume those liion cells weren’t as mainstream as they are today. I found some original cells on that e auction site and will try to follow in the same lane.

I’m scared to put too much juice in and fry something, so baby steps it will be…

I’ll post a follow up to inform others if I have some success.

Just a side comment. I still haven't really looked at the info for that specific light, but in general...

If I'm looking for a cell for a light, P1 consideration is the flashlight's input voltage (V).
P2 is the current (A / mA) requirement of the light vs output rating of the cell.
P3 is the capacity (mAh) for the operating time required.

Some references here are focused on P3 (capacity). Keep in mind that the cells I linked to are of 2 very different chemistries, with significantly different output voltage ratings (~3.2 vs 3.6/3.7-4.2). That's the first thing I'd be focused on. What could damage the light would primarily be exceeding it's input voltage rating. EDIT: If a cell's output current rating exceeds the light's input current requirement, that won't damage the light, but would only extend the operating time.

Capacity is the third thing I'd consider, only after the first two requirements are met (although the capacity can be indicative of the output current capability in some respects).

Yep. That’s why I recommended those 3.2 to start with. Cheap and should work without frying anything.

BTW-Where you been? I figured them bars done ate you! 😆
Honestly just wasn’t happy with the forum. I reported some really really messed up crap by a member and it took wayyyyyy too long for them to get banned. Couple other things. I came back to message bykfixer a little while back because I was going to be in his part of Virginia and found out what happened.

I don’t personally know anyone here but after several several years of communication on this forum I realized that I should have never left over that and I missed out on a few years of posts and messaging with my buddies. So I’ll be back in limited quantities.

I personally don’t know you, but I for one welcome anyone that has wisdom to share. That is what this forum is all about to a lot of us here. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences and transactions. I hope that you along with anyone else that has been a contributing member stick around.

There is an old saying what comes around goes around. I have a feeling flashlight popularity will return, much like watches and cameras have already started to in other circles.
